Sept. 29, 2014 PlanoPlayer Men's 65 72 posts | BLD Las Vegas help Playing infield at BLD this coming weekend and have not played on an artificial infield in a long, long, time. Will the ball get to me quicker and with truer hops or is it pretty much like playing on a dirt infield? |
Sept. 29, 2014 STL0 Men's 60 231 posts | I'm an outfielder so take this for what it is worth. The balls get through more quickly but the hops are true. The balls bounce more but easy to read if you have someone hit a few grounders to you to get the feel. You should lime it over playing on dirt. |

Sept. 29, 2014 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Thank goodness the turf field is gone here, but you have no idea how scary a "true" hop can be. The ball picks up speed whenever it touches the turf. I always suggested throwing it to each other with a bounce between you first. If you start with a bat, someone might be going to the hospital. There are different turf heights; so I hope they figured it out, and I hope your experience is different. I will have to look at the facility closer because there were also runner issues with the turf. When it was all turf, we had people sliding into the outfield because they could not stop, especially at second. Once they made cut outs around the bases, there were issues due to the change in the field composition under your cleats, especially rounding third. I would guess with the baseball theme that you would have green and brown turf or green turf with dirt cut outs. Good luck at the World Championships and enjoy your games at BLD. |
