Feb. 21 garyheifner 651 posts | MITTS If I read the rule changes correctly, anyone can now wear a mitt. I assume that means a 1st baseman's mitt. If that is true, when I pitch, would a mitt be better for defense than a fielder's glove??? |
Feb. 21 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | MITTS As a pitcher and an older player, I have thought about using a mitt while pitching. Then I considered what are the functions of my glove other than fielding a grounder? Line drive; popup, protecting shots that I don't necessarily expect to catch (groin, face, chest). My current glove is better for ground ball fielding and popups and has served me well as protection. A mitt is heavier and I worry that I might not bring it up as quickly for protection. On the other hand, I am still quick enough to cover first on a ground ball to the right side, so a mitt would be handy on catching a throw to first. All things considered, I will stay with the glove. |

Feb. 22 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | MITTS nighttrain I was under the ASSumption the mitt rule was added for the pitcher. Mt thinking the 1st baseman, catcher, and the pitcher can now wear mitts. |
Feb. 22 k man Men's 65 326 posts | MITTS ssusa added that any position can use a mitt effective 2018 while usssa just added the pitcher to the mix based on what I’ve seen on this website and u trip rule book for 2018 |

March 8 txnighttrain 120 posts | MITTS Curveball, you shouldn't ASSume someone is wrong until you read the rules. |
March 9 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | MITTS txassnighttrain, point well taken. (I book rooms in both early in the year! LOL) Thought logic would prevail; hard to figure why a stop or an outfielder would consider a mitt over a glove! I'd have to go back to earlier posts, but thought the talk before the rules committee vote was for allowing the pitcher to wear a mitt, just didn't recall it including ALL defensive players. |
