Being from near the LV area, I drove out to Lorenzi Park to see what's up. As feared, the tractors/heavy machinery were hard at work digging out the infields (dirt portions) with the intent to convert these to soccer fields. So, say goodbye to fields #2 and #3. With that said, fields #1 and #4 still look great and ready for action.

Later that same day I checked out the SSUSA site to check out all the venues that were potentially going to be scheduled for Worlds. Lorenzi is now not even listed, meaning (or how I read it) that even fields #1 and #4 will not be scheduled. This is a recent change. I am curious if fields #1 and #4 will have the same fate as the other two fields. Does anyone know? Lorenzi is a fun place to play and I am certain most teams would prefer playing on these two remaining fields over say Desert Bloom (also a 2 field complex still listed as a venue for worlds). Is Lorenzi basically dead to SSUSA (not available to schedule) going forward?

Looking forward to any additional insight anyone can share. Obviously BLD and Arroyo Grande are the class of LV venues, but Lorenzi is arguably the 3rd best place to play in Vegas, which is why it's sad it's no longer an option apparently.

Jon44 ... You've mentioned Lorenzi Park in two separate threads, so will reply only here to avoid redundancy ... There are a lot of field utilization decisions that are made well in advance of a tournament, especially the World Masters, and many involve factors likely not obvious to participants ... In early December (2017) we had a workable games demand model for the 2018 event AND had contracts in place before year-end with all of the facility providers to implement that plan ... So here are a few of the factors in play, and "what happened next" regarding Lorenzi ...

• Four (or more: BLD) field complexes are clearly superior to two-field complexes, regardless of which ones, for the magnitude of this tournament ... We utilize the "two's" to meet overall games demand, primarily to "expand" the capacity of the "four's" and as overflow for them ... That makes location very important ... Russell Road, and once in a while Dos Escuelas, serve as nearby overflow for Arroyo Grande ... The same is true for Sunset #5-6 and Warm Springs for Sunset Park #11-14 and Desert Bloom for Sunset and/or Desert Breeze ... Proximity to the primary 4-field locations in terms of physical distance and potential traffic circumstances are critical factors when teams occasionally have to move from one to another location ...
• We agree with your assessment of the (former 4-field) Lorenzi Park as having been "top three" ... Personally, I had them "top two", because the LVSSA grounds crew is second-to-none nationally ... At only two fields now, Lorenzi-½ is a locational "orphan" ... We intended to use Lorenzi-4 this year and were under contract (dated 12/21/2017) with CLV for the full use of all four fields for the 2018 WMC ... Based upon our good faith reliance on that contract, we released Doc Romeo (3-fields) back to CLV because it wasn't (and still isn't) required for the expected overall games demand ... The CLV unilaterally canceled half of the Lorenzi-4 contract in late April so they can convert Fields #2-3 to soccer fields, but NOT before re-renting Doc Romeo to a third party OR before advising us of the closure of Lorenzi #2-3 ... That effectively eliminated Lorenzi being "paired" with Doc Romeo for a five-field combination and removed Lorenzi from serious consideration as an option this year ...
• Attempting to schedule Lorenzi as a remote stand-alone two-field complex is impractical and a poor utilization of field prep and director personnel ... It's probably not a good idea to say "never", but it's somewhat unlikely Lorenzi-½ will be a primary scheduling option for future events ...

Thank you for the very detailed response. This helps better understand what all you are dealing with. You didn't come right out and say it, but it's not hard to tell the downsizing from 4 fields to 2 fields at Lorenzi is a major, major bummer for you guys putting this together too.

Also, your explanation about the 2 field complexes still on the schedule makes perfect sense. For example, Dos Escuelas is relatively close to Arroyo Grande, so I totally get that.

I personally really enjoy the quality of the actual venues we play at- to me, it really helps with the overall tourney experience. The cost of playing at these things when all things considered (travel/hotels for many, tourney fees, taking off work, etc) is not a trivial amount for many people, so playing at the best possible complexes really helps make the money spent worth it. On the flip side, it totally takes away from the experience when the complex is less than good. I know it gets old hearing people talk about Shadow Rock/Hollywood or other locations folks feel are not good, but a lot of that frustration comes from the amount of $$$ many spend to come out to these events. It must be tough for some people to buy plane tickets, get hotel reservations, step away from work for 4-5 days, then see they are playing at Shadow Rock.

With all of that said, playing at the World Masters Championship tourney, even at Shadow Rock, is still considerably better than a day at work and/or cleaning the garage (Please in no way read into this that I want our team to play at Shadow Rock-- just know that if it's our time to do that, I will still show up and have fun).

This post isn't so much to bash Shadow Rock-- it's more to point out that losing a quality venue like Lorenzi means more games at other places that are not as good... this sucks for everyone.

Thanks, Jon44 ... Having the Lorenzi-4 contract unilaterally canceled out of the blue by CLV as to Fields #2-3 was a major unwelcome surprise, to say the least ... In any multi-venue tournament, losing any venue, especially a quality one hurts ... Although we certainly didn't see that coming, previously expanding Sessions #1 and #4 to a four-day format was a fortuitous decision now that we have the luxury of 20-20 hindsight ... We'll make it work! ... Good luck! ...

Jon44 ... You're at Sunset Park this time around the Sun ... Clark County has graciously cleared the main quad Fields #11-14 for us, and they only need Fields #5-6 for league play one evening (Friday) of your session ... Good luck! ...
