In another thread there was mention that it would be interesting to have a home run derby at some of the regional or national tournaments. SPA had them in Plano up untill a couple of years ago. The last one they had was divided into two divisions, 50 and 55. A nice twist was each participant had a partner, chosen by blind draw. I don't remember exactly how it worked so maybe someone could refresh my memory. I do remember Steve Simmons was my partner.
What do you think, should associations hold hr derbies at some of their larger tournaments? I would think it would be interesting.
One more thing. At the last SPA hr derby the bats were Worth Insanity's, supplied by SPA in two or three weights. I liked their choice since at the time I was using the Worth Wicked Composite, which is very similar to the Insanity.
Maybe Combat or another bat company would supply the bats and then sell them at wholesale prices after the derby.

It is nice to see balls flying over the fence. However, at our age, there are still more people that cannot hit the front porch than those that can. I liked one of the earlier SPA Worlds that they held in Panama City. Not only did they have a HR contest but also; placement hitting contesst; pitching contest; etc. The proceeds went to a charity. I feel that the more involved, the merrier.......

All that I remember from Plano last year were my "flip flops" melting off me while walking from the car to the dugout in that 115 degree temp !!!

The heat WAS bad. I also remember the cracks in the ground from lack of rain. You could lose you wallet in one of those!

If you do have a HR contest at the tournament and they would like bats to use. Please have someone contact me. We would be have to supply both ASA and SSUSA bat for the contest.

Thanks

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, yesterday I was traveling to Bob Falkin's memorial servises in Fl.

Your offer is very generous of you and Rip-It!. I'm hoping Fran or Dave from SSUSA will jot down you contact info and I will make sure that the folks at SPA will get it.
Maybe someone with contacts with the LVSSA will also pass it along.
Thanks!
