| June 8 rabbit Men's 70 319 posts | the Kalamazoo,Michigan Warriors defeated in the bottom of the 7th the Indiana Classics, from Greensburg, Indiana 10-9 to win the 2004 SPA South Bend Classic 50+ division. 3rd place went to Blue Chips from Chicago 4th place went to Indy Masters-Indianapolis 5th place Brickyard Bombers,-Indianapolis it was one of the few tourneys were al lthe teams were AAA, this week tourney is the SPA tourney in Columbus,Indiana, they have 10 teams in the 50+ division, |
| June 9 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | Rabbit, congratulations to you and all of the other teams. We would have loved to have been there, but you know the circumstances. I have not hooked up with Dwain, but I do know that the Metro Stars from Louisville are in Columbus, and they are a Major team that we have met up with several times. They did lose all of their games in Indy, but it was a very good bracket of Major and Major Plus. We play them our third game Saturday. Of course we have the pleasure of playing you and the OGs prior to that. Do you know who the other teams are? I also wish you luck in Johnson City as my only memory is of our guys standing at the fence watching teams like Faith Electric jack the ball over. |

The team that beat you on Sunday, played against us as AA on Saturday, thereby preventing any home runs! For the record, there was another team that was AA when we played them on Saturday. |
| June 11 rabbit Men's 70 319 posts | Hi nomiken, I knew that, when we played them on Saturday they said they were AA and I told them they were rated AAA, they said they didnt know that, i said look on the website, and when we played them in the championship game they said they were AAA then, I know why, because they picked up one of the Jackson Merchants out of Michigan, he is one of thier long ball hitters, since they are probabaly a major team, so they needed to be AAA so in case he hit a home run it would not be a ouit, Thye other team was from Chicago, they did the same thing, trying to play down, the 5 run linning just kills my team more then the home run rule does, and This is the main thing I am getting tired of going to these tourneys, now this week there is a major plus team playing under a differnt name and playing AAA ,I know the reason, they just cant find any place to play, I dont care if they play, but they should not be awarded anything for winning the games or the tourney, when the other teams dont even have a chnce to win.As far as last weekend, the guys running the tourney have no clue and I will not be back there anymore, will travel farther away just to play in a well run tourney .It isnt SPA's fault, just the people running the tourney. There is too much stuff going on with rankings already without the people running the tournaments becoming co-conspirators. Same thing happened last time we played in SB, about 5 years ago. It is no wonder that there were only 5 teams in the 50 & 55 combined! Nice facility, good umps, idiots at the helm! |
| June 11 rabbit Men's 70 319 posts | Right on, this stuff has to stop, it is killing senior softball, and I dont want that to happen, I am very thankfull that I can still play at the level I want too and still enjoy playing, but it is getting frustrated with all the BS.I know my team also gets frustrated, but as ball players we still give it all we got, as I tell them before each tourney, expect the worse and it usually happens in the qualifiers,just play ball, and I will take care of the other stuff, next time you are in a tourney look me up, we are playing in Columbus,IND this weekend and then to Johnson City, Tenn in July, then NSA World in Boaz,Alabama, ISSA Worls in Manassa in August then SPA Nationals in early Sept, in Plano,havent decided about playing in October yet,that is getting late for us ,Rabbit,coach of the Indiana Classics AAA 50+ |
| June 17 biggflyy53 16 posts | The Kalamazoo Warriors are definitely an AAA team. They have won 2 AA worlds at Vegas in the last 3 years. They probably could play major. The one player that played for the Warriors that hits the long ball does play for Jackson Merchants and rumor has it that he is all "roided" up. Also, someone should tell the guy from Kalamazoo that got hit with the ball on a double play attempt and was hurt should either slide or get out of the baseline. He definitely was interfering with the play. |
| June 17 Nancy Allen Men's 55 1438 posts | I just wanted to add my two cents on a couple of things. South Bend does have a nice facility, but the tournament director, UIC, or whoever does not brief the umpires very well on senior rules. In the years that we have played there, it was basically whatever rules each ump had which were not always the same. We only had one umpire that was incompetent by refusing to get help on a tag at home that they called out. To make a long story short this was the reason that we were not there. I am glad that Rabbit did well as we all got started in senior softball together, and we have traveled all over the country to end up playing his team. We have only ever played the Warriors in South Bend and in their tournament which is their turf. I think that they are a good team, but I would never have put them at the Major level based on our games with them. The only other comment that I have is on the double play because it is one of my pet peeves, and I would have had to seen the play to give my true opinion, but no one should ever come off with a comment about having to slide. At any age sliding is a potential risk, and if you tell them to, and they do and get hurt, then the teller should be liable for the injury. That is why softball rules indicate to avoid contact not sliding. As far as getting out of the way, I really believe that as we get older that we move slower, and it is hard to get out of it as effectively as we used to. I do not believe that anyone wants to be hit with a thrown ball, and if they are not creating interference (throwing up their hands, yelling something at the thrower, etc), I would believe that a senior player may have made an effort. It may have even warranted a warning to the fielder if it seemed to be intentional. Like I said this is subjective because I did not actually see the play. What did the umpire call? I may not agree with you, but I could and do talk softball for hours because of all of the angles. Of course all the talk in the world does not always solve the issues. Good luck. |

| July 5 CHET53 9 posts | hello,i want to add my two cents worth on the guy that got injured in the south bend classic, i am that guy,and if anyone thinks i got in th way on purpose they have got some headworms,the second and shortstop that threwthe ball said to me he was sorry because the balled slipped out of his hand,my teamates said i was clearly was out of the way of the throw,i asure u i dont like to get hit by a hard softball at my age lol,besides it kept me from playing defense in the championship game,but maybe the guy that sad i was in the way has better eyesight than the guy on the other ream that said he was sorry to me,enough on that ,nancy thank you on your comments on u dont think someone in the seniors would on purpose get in the way,and on the sliding, i agree,and u are right on our team we are a good team but not major,but the person that thinks we are a major team also says i was in the way of a throw lmao..chet53 |

I suggest you stay home and do something safe like the laundry or putting your make-up on. If you do show up, I will be scoping the Kalamazoo bench to see if you have moved up to team batboy. P.S. Bring an ice-pack to soothe that knot on you noggin if you get in the way of an "errant throw." |
| Aug. 8 CHET53 9 posts | hey big fly where were u, was looking forward to meet u at schamburg u said u were going to come up and see if i made it to waterboy lmao,but just like a fly u were hanging around the bathrooms ,,,flys like it there for some reason ,also the chicago blue chips wanted to meet u because they were the team that i was playing against that day in south bend there was one blue chip ballplayer that said he wanted first crack at u,so we checked the bathrooms and lo behold no fly in the mens,u know the blue chip players said u wont throw one between his eyes or would u because he really waschomping at the bitsto meet u also i said let me meet him first and then u can he made me promise but no fly for 2 days , anyone who says they are going to throw a ball and put it between someones eyes should not be playing the game and if i was your teamate i would not want to play along side u i am not in the game to hurt someone hey also we are having a tourney on august 22 why dont u come and play in kalamazoo,the bluechips might come also we can have a replay of south bend,,,by the way i put my makeup on for u for schamburg but no bigfly for 2 days was very sad u were not there ....but i wonder u was there i bet lmaop. s. stay out of the bathrooms i hear there is some bad shit going around.....wait a minute flys have to eat i forgot sorry!!!!!!!! |
