Discussion: "OH BY THE WAY"

This phrase, Oh by the way, normally is quite innocuous. A wife may say, "Oh by the way, while you are out, pick up some milk and bread". Or a friend may say, "Oh by the way, I remember the rest of the joke I was trying to tell you the other day".
Such has not been the case for me of late. In 2013, I almost died twice in 6 days with acute pancreatitis. I recovered and while being released, my doctor repeated that old familiar phrase--"Oh by the way, you have cysts on your liver and kidneys."
In 2016, I found out that I have an accoustic neuroma on the right side of my brain. It is benign. At the end of my consultation, my doctor informed me--"Oh by the way, you have an unidentified anomaly on the other side of your brain".
Last week, I went for follow-up on the cysts and sure enough I heard those seemingly innocent words again. After an ultrasound, it was "Oh by the way, you have a partially collapsed bladder".
If I had known that I was going to live this long, I would have certainly tried to take better care of myself! One of my Bible study members told me the best thing I could do was quit going to doctors!
Now, I am not looking for sympathy; actually I am in pretty good health overall; still playing softball.
Just wondering if others may have heard a few "Oh by the ways" along life's pathway?

Oh, by the way AKA. You're still vertical, playing softball, and able to type a post. You still have several lives left.

And that really is my point, DD. Life is full of ups and downs but we should never lose hope and keep pressing forward.
As a pastor, I often visited Children's Hospital and the VA Hospital in Birmingham. Always quite sobering and kept things in perspective. My little aches and pains hardly compared.
And, oh by the way, there is the other side of my story.
Undeserving of all, but blessed beyond measure.
Breech born, chord wrapped around my throat, barely made it. 7 years old, appendix ruptured , spared again. 12 years old, fell 20 feet out of a tree, head first. 7 feet from the ground legs bent at the knees, draped over a limb, broke my fall. 14, in woods behind my house, bent down to drink water from stream and one foot away staring into eyes of water moccasin. 21, Vietnam.
30, stopped to help 2 women in Birmingham with their hood raised on their car. Walked up, one of them stuck double-barrel derringer to my chest and pulled trigger twice--2 misfires!
My wife and I will celebrate our 52nd Christmas together this year. She is the best. We are blessed with family and friends, a great Church, and our Lord Jesus Who loves us. May everone have a great and blessed holiday and Holy Day season.
