July 26 HSquared Men's 60 147 posts | Is there a policy or process by which divisions and brackets assigned? Example: An age category has 12 teams (all are same age and ratings). Will these teams be all in the same round robin matrix and eventually the same elimination bracket OR will they be broken down into 2 separate “silver/gold” type divisions? Assume the above but the team total now is 14 or 16 teams. How does the breakdown change? TIA |
July 26 DaveDowell Men's 70 4323 posts | That's on me (solely) as it relates to SSUSA Home Office Administered events since I'm the "schedule geek" here ... I keep them all together if possible, with some early round "sectioning" when things get unwieldy ... A few years ago (2017) I wrote an 85-team Three-game-guarantee bracket for the 50-AAA Division of the World Masters in Las Vegas ... I split it into three (3) 21-team "pods" and one (1) 22-team "pod" for the first three days of the event and then brought the survivors together on Championship Sunday for the Finals ... Just for laughs, the "If" Game was Game #197 in that bracket, and that's in addition to the 85 Round Robin Seeding games for a total of 282 games ... You can find it here if you're curious ... But to answer your general question, we keep them together if at all possible and that's my call on the format of the competition ... Has been that way for somewhere around the last 17± years ... Thanks for asking! ... |
July 26 HSquared Men's 60 147 posts | Thanks Dave for the education. I thought maybe it was some "Bingo Ball(s)" system...lol So then, when teams are "p.o-ed", they have you to blame? (j/k).... lol Thanks again |
July 26 DaveDowell Men's 70 4323 posts | Yes, if they occasionally get p.o.-ed, they DO have me to blame ... But just to be clear on it, that's not necessarily a mandated cause/effct pre-condition! ... Sometimes I sense that MY schedule was entirely to blame for THEM failing to "hit their weight" or for challenging the national record for most errors committed by an individual player (or team) in a weekend! ... Just kidding here, too! ... I thoroughly enjoy doing this and always respect and appreciate the feedback, either way ... Thanks! |
