| March 21 1swellguy 1 posts | A batter who has one foot outside the batter's box before striking the ball is out. If the batter's foot is in the air when the pitch is in the air and the foot comes down outside the batter's box after making contact with the ball is the batter still out? |
| March 21 DaveDowell Men's 70 4323 posts | If you are asking, in effect, if a "Ty Cobb at-bat" is legal (front foot in the air at and through bat/ball contact), the answer is "YES" so long as the batter is compliant with Rulebook §7.3 below ... __________ §7.3 • BATTING POSITION A. The batter must have at least some portion of both feet on or inside the lines of the batter's box at the start of the pitch. A batter who steps out of the batter’s box at any time during the pitch and then hits the ball, fair or foul, shall be called out. Steps out means touching the ground completely outside of the lines of the batter’s box. (See §1.5) |
| March 22 Turning2 Men's 70 204 posts | 1swellguy - Ty Cobb never hit a ball with his front foot still in the air and neither could any senior softball player effectively hit a ball with all of their weight balanced on just their trailing foot, try it, you can't do it. DD has correctly addressed "out of the box" resulting in an out. The original post isn't realistic, but if someone wanted to hit off just their trailing foot i guess you could, wouldn't be pretty. |
