Is the middle open rule 6.18?
Hi y’all just trying to figure out how rule 6.18 application works. I’ve been playing 40+ Major for a minute. This past weekend we faced a team that hit at least 8 balls back up the middle, 1 was a direct shot to my pitchers shin. The umpires never said a word. I asked one of the players on the opposing team why they were smoking the box and his response was we don’t want to waste our home runs. So if no words of malice are exchanged aloud so the umpire can hear it, it’s ok?

Big P - the entire field is playable from foul line to foul line, the middle of the infield can be defended by both the pitcher and the middle fielder. The rule is in place in the event that “in the umpires judgment” based on circumstances he sees, hears, observes during the game that are an intent to hit or hurt the pitcher he has the authority to act accordingly, otherwise, it’s play on, hit it hard, field it cleanly and whomever scores the most runs wins the game.
