Re-ratings at Vegas Worlds
I know that last year the general rule of thumb was to move up approximately the top 10% in each division to the next skill level. Does anyone know if the same guideline is being used for this year's Worlds?

Crusher23 ... That topic was visited at last year's National Rules Committee and here is what they decided ...

3. Increase the number of teams that move up following the Worlds (Effective for 2022 season)
Recommendation: Move up more teams, particularly in the larger brackets, at the conclusion of the World Championships. Following discussion, motion amended to champions with no appeal from 2 years to remain current 1 year

Brackets of 36 or more:
Top 20% move up, bottom 10% move down
Champions move up for 1 year (no appeal), Remaining top 10% bumped up for 1 year (no appeal), next 10% bumped up for 1 year (appeal after June 15)
Bottom 10% offered a move down with roster restrictions.

Brackets of 20-35 teams:
Top 15% and bottom 5% moved.
Champions bumped for 1 year (no appeal). Remaining Top 10% bumped for 1 year (no appeal). Next 5% bumped for 1 year (appeal after June 15). Bottom 5% offered a move down with roster restrictions

Brackets of 10-19 teams:
Top 10% moved.
Champions bumped for 1 years (no appeal). Second and third place bumped for 1 year (appeal after
June 15).

Brackets of 6-9 teams:
Champions bumped for 1 year (no appeal). Additional changes at staff direction.

Passes 10-2 (Effective for 2022 World Championships)

D², Semantics question:

Using a 44-team bracket as the sample and reading the ruling “as stated” ….

One can interpret the ruling to mean, 43 “remaining teams” times the 20% factor, resulting in 8.6 teams getting bumped up. Does the champion get factored into 8.6 team total? Or is it 8.6, PLUS the champion?

Thanks for your cerebral moment…

H² ... Using the 45 team 60-AAA Division as the closest actual mathematical case study, the top 20%, including the Champion, will be subject to move-up (45 x 20% = 9th place or better, including ties) ... The top 10% will include 5th place or better in terms of the full year/no appeal increase in rating ... There are 12 teams that finished 9th place or better, with a four-way tie for ninth ... So it will look like this:
Full Year Rating Increase = Champion / Finalist / 3rd / 4th / 5th tie (2 teams)
Rating Increase, may appeal after June 15th = 7th tie (2 teams) and 9th tie (4 teams) ... Reminder: As with any appeal of a rating increase, the team must play at the new rating to have any appeal considered ...

Affected teams will receive a full email explanation of this from the Rating Department of SSUSA shortly ...

If a team gets moved up based on the results in Vegas, would a player(s) who played on the team for all of 2022 but did not go to Vegas, for whatever reason, get moved moved up as well, even though they did not play in Vegas?

Situation: a team gets a performance promotion for playing well at worlds. The team then decides to move to a higher age bracket. However several players are left behind because they’re not old enough to play at the new age level. Are the players left behind then reclassified to their individual player rating or automatically classified to the new team level?

Also, using BALL4's question... How does the "promoted team", which "aged up" get ranked? It is certainly clear that when they move up, within their age group, but the Ranting Index Chart does not reflect an equivalent rank when aging up?

55Major to 55M+ is very clear, but what are they @ the 60 division? 60M++ ?

Everybody take a breath...The senior staff arrived back in Sac late Sunday after 3 weeks in Vegas. A hurricane devastated the area where WW are being held in FL. A lot on their plate. It will all get worked out and a number of individuals will be dissatisfied. I know it affects recruiting and retention, but they will get there. Dave do you know which fields the 70s will be playing on in April???? ;-)

Simply a question, softball4b. No timetable attached to it. Can be addressed at staff's leisure....

Thanks Mike ... The 70's will be playing in Clark County, NV in April [grins]... As for the rest of you, the next definitive information you will get will be from the SSUSA Ratings Department guys shortly ... We won't be doing a series of repetitive, "....But, what IF...." speculation exercises here in the interim ...

What is significant about the June 15 date?

Must a Team Play at their higher rating before appeal?

titanhd ...
[1] softball4b is concisely correct ...
[2] YES ... Implicit in any rating appeal is that the team will have recent performance history to demonstrate the basis for considering their appeal ... Not playing would have the exact same practical effect as not submitting the appeal at all ...

When and how will teams be notified if they have been reranked either up or down since this is important to know for Winter Worlds in phoenix? Another question, example, a team is ranked as a AAA team and is moving up an age level. If they get bumped down to AA, does this ranking follow them into the next age level and vice versa, if they get bumped from AAA to Major and move up, does the Major ranking follow to next age level?

Teams will be notified shortly by email from the SSUSA's National Rating Committee ... Teams that meet the move-up criteria know where they finished in Las Vegas and should not be surprised ... Teams eligible for a move-down will also get an email explaining their options and the roster restrictions that may result if they accept the move-down offer ... Teams matriculating to the next older age group "take their rating with them" ... EXAMPLE: A 50-AAA team earning a rating increase to 50-Major would move to 55's as a 55-Major team for the 2023 Season ...
