In short, Platooning in Senior Softball like they do in pro football would bring longevity to players, higher degree of safety and better play, greater participation and revenue per tournament per association. It could be implemented in 10 seconds with no equipment necessary and need not be mandatory. Why not give it a try? |

Not trying to throw a jab at you, but I do not understand where or which point you are trying to make,,, to make it safer. Example Football, offense or defense, trained in one aspece of the game Sports, to use a player altrernately with another player at same position...may work here. Just do not see safety... |
Aug. 11 salio2k Men's 60 547 posts | Not again! Einstein, a lot of players would rather quit than have someone else hit for them or field for them. Not all of the senior teams are sponsored. With the cost factor and the distance that we travel, players want to play both sides of the game. I still cannot beleive that you would be satisfied with the role of pitcher.............nothing more. You love to hit! What, were you not thinking of yourself when promoting this platooning? |
Aug. 11 slohand Men's 60 2 posts | I'm cranky tonight, but I'm also a National League fan who believes the DH violates rule 1.1 of the baseball rule book.So call me stodgy. But really, platooning? How about a third platoon--Guys Who Want To Change The Basic Rules of the Game? All you need is a keyboard and a monitor--no more worries about illegal bats or the danger of injuries. How good is that? Gentlemen, I don't think this is football. The game was designed to be difficult--hitting has always been the easy part.If you don't want to field or run bases, there's always the batting cage. |
Aug. 12 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Hey Guys, I don't mean anything more than making the argument. Even if it's the greatest idea since relativity doesn't mean it's the right time to implement it. Taits, safety comes when you have guys playing infield by choice instead of necessity. How many times does a solid hitting guy end up playing 3rd or right field and every ball hit to him is potentially, a hospital ball. I see the game as already modified and not in the pristine form it once was or never was so I'm not upset about seeing changes. And I continue to raise it for the new guys and to get people accustomed to hearing and thinking about it. |
Aug. 12 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Einstein, Where does the offensive hitting become a defense problem. Unless he does get injured and then cant play. I know what your saying here though. I play 3-4 positions but limited to P. Well till the other day I complained about it, because the errors still came. Now looking for another team. Hope to see ya this weekend. |
