| Oct. 29 Dqmtv Men's 60 9 posts | Had rotator cuff surgery early Aug 2023. Figuring to be back in action March 2024. ( 69 yr old, infield) Walking 2_3 miles daily…. Now knee iffy. Dr Tuesday. IF I need a new knee, what’s recovery time to get back playing? Or grin and bear it, don’t do surgery, wrap knee.? Sitting around 6 months sucks. ( shoulder) ?? What to do? |
| Oct. 30 JDSmith67 Men's 50 2 posts | Dqmtv - I feel your pain. I've had surgery on both shoulders and both knees. Rotator cuff surgery was a tough rehab. It took several months to get back playing. Hang in there...you hit small milestones of improvement and then it starts to improve more rapidly. I'm at the point of needing a knee replacement in the future due to thin inner meniscus. Had two high level ortho doctors exam and give me advice. Both said once you replace a knee it will wear out at some point. Sports involving running speeds up the wear process tremendously and a person can be back in the knee pain business in a matter of a few years. They both said to put off the replacement as long as possible. Not that the knee won't feel great after replacement but concern over wear due to running. I'm sure there are exceptions to this and some will say they had a replacement X years ago and it's still great. I can't speak from first hand knowledge...just what the two doctors told me. | Oct. 30 9 ball 26 posts | Dqmtv..here is how I am handling similar situation. Last Dec,during my annual physical, complained to my doctor of left knee pain. Xray showed moderate/severe arthritis..10 yrs prior had surgery to repair torn meniscus. I mentioned knee replacement surgery to correct the problem, but he also balked at this quick solution. He said " not so fast",we have prep work to do before we arrive at that point. He prescribed physical therapy,wt loss,pain meds,etc. So,I've been working hard to get ready for my ortho appt. Yes seems to be the positive outcome of a knee replacement has a lot to do with prep work. Meanwhile I've continued playing softball 3x/wk thru the pain,and some days were real tough. I am looking fwd to corrective knee surgery,will be ready for it when necessary,and expect a reasonable recovery period of about 3-4 months. My online research indicates knee replacements last about 15-20 yrs,depending on degree of usage. I will play with the pain until I can no longer,then get the problem resolved. I'm 70, 192 pds,5'8"" play outfield/infield. Tku geo |
