Can someone please explain to me....
how the same person can support both pitcher safety and the use of Senior bats?

Maybe because we like using the best products available, and that included the glove we use and the bat.
Don't like it either don't play or play something else, like hop scotch or pick up sticks.

I pitch primarily, but I also use leg protection. I have seriously considered a mask. My choice as is anything else i use that is legal for that particulat league or tournament.
You have the same rights.
The game, imo, has changed, but it wasn't "seniors" that did it. It was, imo, ASA with the bat ban & then the ball changes. They've taken the bats away and the balls, and I'm sure more are on the way, if you play asa.
You killed the horse here I fear, on this subject & or person.
Gary, Have a good day.

TNG, I see you're baiting again, lol. I'm not much on discussions with close minded individuals so I wont be responding to your posts very often, but I do find you quite amusing, and every "once in a while" you have some insightfull comments. What team/teams do you play on and where?

taits, you are way off base on this one. And of course didn't answer the question. If you are playing softball, no need for me to play hopscotch.

Allen, how so? By asking for a logical explanation to obvious hypocrisy?

I play in a couple of Senior leagues in NE Ohio, and in a "C" league there as well. Probably won't play much tournament ball until something changes so I won't go to a tourney and find only a couple of teams in our bracket. I saw that in 2006, and for the money it just wasn't very appealing.

TNG, Since you seem like a sincere proponent of the game, I will extend you the courtesey of trying to explain what I meant, this time.....Safety, technology, cheating, etc. have been argumentive discussions since I can remember and I don't see that changing in my lifetime. It just gets "old" ( I hate that word) rehashing them to the point that it takes away the joy of the game. I am truly sorry that you have not been able to adjust to the change, it sounds like Senior softball is missing out on a good player. But hey, this is America and if you want to play with a sawmill slat and a Pet milk can, go for it.

Let's agree to disagree and "play ball", what ever league, level or "time period" that may be in. Man, you're good, you drew me right into that one. You're a true "Master" baiter. No offense intended there, just playing on words and trying to keep it light. Have a great day and I know I'll be hearing from you.

Allen, I still play the game, both Seniors and with the kids. I don't like all of the special Senior rules, don't see the point to most of them, but I play them nonetheless.

I jsut don't see spending a lot of money to play in tournaments with 3 teams. That just is not a tournament, heck it isn't even a league.

But the rest I live with, just don't understand what they add to the game.

unfortunately TNG, AlleninGA is right. I always defend your right to say whatever, even if I disagree and I often do. Your have now changed your post from safety and bats, to bad tournaments. Lets get back to the subject. My take is that no one wants to see the pitcher hurt, but still wants to hit the ball a mile. The same person can easily support that concept. I know you always quote the exception to the rule and complain about all new rules. I truly feel you understand the reason for the rules(and there are good reasons) yet still complain. If the guys on this board can't explain the purpose of the rules to your satisfaction, you need to confer with those that make the rules so you can get a better understanding of why the rule exists.

I didn't mean to digress, Allen asked where I play and I just wanted to give context to why I don't play tournaments anymore.

No, I have no idea why there is a mat, or why you cannot slide into home but can the other bases, or why defense has been devalued by the 5-run rule. And no one has explained them.

As far as the bats, livelier bats to hit further equals the very real potential for faster balls coming back at the pitcher. That is just basic physics. If this wasn't the case so many guys would not be advocating protective gear, or screens, or rules where balls hit near the pitcher are automatic outs.

Pitcher safety, for now at least, until the day comes where rules may dictate otherwise, it’s the pitchers own
Dilemma, as to protecting himself. But I also feel that batters intentionally going there isn’t right, but nothing will be ever done about it. As for bats, it’s been gone through as has this last one, if it legal, use it.
Don’t like it, too bad, but don’t complain about those who do.
Start your own softball assn with your rules, etc. There would be no need for you to understand, that way. After all, it’s been said, If you build it they will come.
Your right hop scotch wouldn’t be a good fit for you, you’d complain about the token you might have to use. .
Done here w\ you. If I didn't feed your need, SORRY. not.

So taits, from your perspective either these rules have no basis and/or you just don't seem to care?

I don't care what bats are used, but I have pitched for 32 years and have NEVER whined about balls coming at me or pitcher safety in general. But be honest, bats that hit further = more dangerous balls at the pitcher.

no one is arguing the fact hot bats could be trouble pitchers. You say you have never whined about pitcher safety and bats. Read your posts, what do you call it.

I call it trying to understand how the same people who insist upon Senior bats can also act like they care about pitchers' safety without being complete hypocrits.

Gary 19......Why worry about the pitchers? 90% of softball players don't pitch.

I'm not. I pitch and don't worry about my safety, or advocate a bunch of silly things like screens and "keep out" lanes up the middle.

I just get curious how guys can want the liveliest bats known to man yet profess to care about pitchers.
