I am looking at double hip replacements due to severe arthritis in both. I am interested in hearing from any one out there that could give me encouragement that I will be able to play again without worrying about my "new" hips.

Any "positive" input would be welcomed. Thanks.

I don't have one but two members of our league have had them done and both are playing as well as they did before.

My co-manger just had one done on Sep 10 and is walking around pretty well without his cane at this morning breakfast. Plans on playing with us on Jan 3 2008 when we start indoors.

IMO the only thing that will stop you from playing is yourself. Don't overdue it but on the other hand don't over baby it.

Good Luck

Gary` I to am looking at a total replacement, mine is a knee so not sure if this applies to hips.Asked my Dr.about playing again after surgery and he recommended not.I told him that I knew several players that had resumed playing and hia words were "the replacements are made to last about
15 years,they aren`t made for running,jumping,squatting,
etc.If You want to play You can, just expect to have the surgery again in 7-8 years".I know that this isn`t the answer that You wanted to hear, cause it`s sure not the one that I wanted either.Don`t know what I`m going to do,guess time and the surgery results will help me make up my mind. The worst part was my wife was also sitting in the room!Good Luck whatever You decide.

In talking to different players I believe that the knee replacement is a lot more difficult and complicated than a hip with a lot longer recovery time.

Gary,
I just caught something on the CBS evening news on Monday evening about the latest hip replacement procedure. It is a partial replacement, they put a metal cap in the end of each of the bones instead of doing a complete replacement. They say the healing time is much faster and because it is still mostly your own bone structure, it is supposed to be much stronger. Next time you see Guy Grasso, talk with him, I know for sure that he has at least one of his hips replaced, along with both knees.
