| Oct. 30 GT Men's 60 162 posts | Moving a topic Guys, I'm ready for the attack I will get with this one. Can we move the TV Trivia to a menu that is more acceptable for this topic. I've talked to quite a few guys around the country. Most prefer this as a softball venue. I honestly don't think this topic is for this site. Why not discuss whats going on with softball in your area rather then take up a whole page with trivia that doesn't deal with softball. I'd rather hear whats going on in your league, your local tournaments or experiences in softball matters then this. So, sorry if anyone is offended, but I'm just not into the trivia stuff. | Oct. 31 GT Men's 60 162 posts | Moving a topic Harris County Senior Softball League, Houston, Tx. We have approx. 280 members. Four divisions, six teams each. League are set by ability. Top divison has many tournament team players. Major Plus, Major and 3A. Rather competitive. Each year we get 6 guys to manage, usually same ones but some changes each year. We hold a draft, so each year you have some of the same guys and some different ones. Gives guys aa chance to play with and against each other and makes for better comraderie. We play approx. 50 guys in summer, minus rainouts, then a double elimination playoff. Regular season and playoff winners each get prizes. All the other divisons also have tournament players scattered among different teams. We are prould to boast many National champs throughout the league. Each division is somewhat set by ability, but there are guys that can play the top division that choose not to for various reasons. One being we play Mon/Wed(top division and lowest division) . Tues/ Thurs for the next two divisions. Some guys can't play on certain nights for various reasons. We have a board of directors and maintan the fields ourselves. WE have the two best fields(by far the best infields) you wil play on. No cinder stones here. We have 24 teams and 24 sponsors, plus player fees to keep the league going. Been active for approx. 24 yrs I believe. Some guys who love softball started it and we are keeping it going. We also run approx. 3 to 5 local tournaments each year(See my thank you to the teams message). Thats about it. PS We have a ladies aux that sells food/drinks at our tournaments, plus run other activities for the league. Hope to hear how others are doing. You asked and here it is. Who's next? |
| Nov. 1 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Moving a topic There are three senior leagues in Metro Atlanta, one in Smyrna, one in Gwinett County and one in Woodstock. I presently play in Woodstock. In the past I have played in the one in Smyrna. Formaly our association is called Cherokee Senior Softball Association. We have a good website, cssasoftball.com. There are 8 teams at 2 skill levels on Monday morning and 16 teams in 3 skill levels on Tuesday nights, with a total of 250-275 players. We have been growing by 30-40 player per year and adding 3-4 teams per year. Our three skill levels are the Masters, American and National league. The National league is for the "more experienced" players. The Masters are the older guys, I don't know the minimum age there. They get very detailed in keeping stats and are usually responsive to the players wants and needs. We use ASA bats and until this season used Worth Gold Dots. We expressed our desire to use better bats and balls and it was agreed that we will now use Dudly Thunder. I had recommended Thunder Advance but they got a good deal on the regular Thunders we they went with them. Our directors feel they can't budge on bats, being afraid of law suits if someone is hurt with 1.20 bats or even USSSA bats. We also draft, I guess the reason for that is so one team doesn't blow every other one out. The team that I and Sag are on finished last place this season. We're happy because we get a first round draft pick next spring. (I always try to find something to be about being in last place.) For the past two years we have had an allstar tournament with the associations in Smyrna and Gwinett County. They couldn't get the scheduling worked out this year so maybe next year we'll do it again. Btw, Sag is a league director so maybe he will have something to add here. |
| Nov. 1 GT Men's 60 162 posts | Moving a topic Nice one Bruce, Our insurance company, which is BollingerASA told us as long as we are not a Championship League, we can use the U2. Might look into that. We've never had a problem with insurance and everyone has a U2. Its great to draft. I managed in the upper division and we won both. But, its the fun of playing good competition and meeting new guys you get on your team each year. You find out you have much in common with them during the course of the year. Thanks for you input. Hope others will join in. Nice to know whats going on around the country. I know others are just starting an association and maybe they will pick something up from this or contact those that already have them. We are getting ready for Vegas, just hope there will be some other 60's teams there. lol. GT |
| Nov. 1 hitt2 353 posts | Moving a topic The Stanislaus Senior Softball league, Modesto California, has three age divisions playing on three different night of the week on Tuesday’s the rookie (50) play in a 10 team division. Many of the 50, 55 and 60 tourney players play on this night. On Thursday’s the 55+ division and senior women’s division play. The number of teams varies year to year. On Tuesday mornings the 60+ play. At mid season there is a league bar-b-que which players and families enjoy. Each player pays an entry fee and receives a sponsor uniform for the team he's been draft. The entire league is draft oriented with player being viewed on 4 tryout nights. There is no keeping track of standings and no play off games. The league runs from April to until the first week in October. A player can play in multiple games if a team is short, thru the bottle cap system. A painted grid with the game times for both fields is used. A person put his bottle cap down in the game time he want to pick up an extra game. This is first come first pick. The league is heavily loaded with tournament player from MTC's 50 & 55 teams, Quicksilver, the Turlock Legends, Nor Cal Legend and the 55 & 60’s Animals to name a few. Other players like myself play with teams out of Stockton, Sacramento and Modesto. I've been involved in this league for the past 4 years and have had a lot fun and met some very nice people. One unique part of the league is the cultivation of future senior players by allowing player to enter the league at 47yrs old, allowing then to learn the game and make a positive transition. |

| Nov. 2 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | Moving a topic I. one-hand typing. think the trivia game is fine/cool way to go dBax, but Oreo is right look at how relaxed, interesting and informative the site can be when the fundamental values we ALL SHARE (caps lock) around mutual respect, support and recognition are observed and enforced. I'm not sure we can maintain our dignity and positive meaning for each other without being willing to take a stand when "stuff" starts flying around. I not only don't apologize for standing up for what I think is right anywhere in life but thank and applaud all those who worked on and off the site to help define and keep the site and the community it represents well served. Why, without thoughtful and respectful leadership in any community, constituents might think whatever goes down is right and cool even if it meant pre-emptive death and destruction to other members and that nothing could or should be done about it. Boy, then they could get into deep "stuff" couldn't they. |
