You will not break anything, you could have someone (soft toss) balls for you. Swinging a (wifflebat) 2-3 times a week (50-l00 swings) will definitely increase your bat speed (Based on Ray Demarini's THE SECRET TO ULTIMATE BAT SPEED) IT WORKS.
