The LVSSA had the first weekend of their Spring event, as a participant I enjoyed the event, a little windy (when hasn't it been), congratulations to the club members they worked hard and it went off without to much fanfare. Could some things have been better probably but it was enjoyable. Living in Vegas I had a number of the younger generation (40's) come out and watch. The Mavericks as usual put on a show and the folks on the outside looking in (again the 40's) see how much fun we have, how far the homeruns go, the sportsmanship and wish they had what we have. Be thankful make your comments constructive and see everyone in Reno.

Joe,
I felt that it was a well-run tourney overall. We like the fields @ Doc Romeo as well as any of the LV fields. We appreciated the condition of the fields, the 1 1/2 time slots, the logical/practical format, the rules and pretty much everything about it... other than the 70' bases (but fair for both teams).
The only organizational issue that we had was the 'back and forth' use of the 1-1 count and 0-0 count. While it didn't seem to make any difference as far as how many innings we played, it was slightly disconcerting... but not a huge deal.
As the only major + team in an 8 team bracket (7 major teams) we were happy to give up 5 runs per game... and play the major rules. I'm not sure why the LVSSA made the decision to eliminate this on Sunday but this may have been very influential on the decisions of several teams (in both the 50 and the 60 brackets) to not play the undefeated team for the championship. GSF does applaud the way that Bob Gregorich handled it.
If I were a TD I would seriously consider putting teams 'on notice' that didn't wish to play in the championship game. If it's a travel conflict I would be more understanding... but if it's just an unwillingness to play a 'hot team', I'd be much less liberal. On Notice = if it happens once, they go on notice... if it happens more than once, don't let them back in an assn event (same assn, not all across the board) for one year.
I know that many will object to my opinion and it is their right to express it as well. And I also know that there are some teams that feel that they 'have nothing to gain' by playing and possibly beating a team from a higher classification. I surely disagree with this mind set.
But to clarify, GSF does not have any ill feelings, to the LVSSA or any other team, over the way that the Spring Classic ended. But we have noticed a certain trend over the past 12 months.
GSF would like to thank the many men and women that worked to make this event a success.
