Platooning, again?
It's that time of the year guys.
Platooning or unlimited defensive substitution while keeping the offensive line up
exactly the same with all the same rules in force
is IMO a wonderful idea I didn't create.
It's everywhere in sports.
It can be enacted in 15 seconds without changing another rule.
it will:
-increase senior participation
-create higher level play
-promote safer play
-make the associations and communities more money
from increased membership and participation
-create better team harmony and esprit through wider/easier use
of getting bench/role players in games.

Platooning, again?
Should this topic not be in the Major-Plus Task Force thread?

Platooning, again?
Joe,
Back in Aug of '06 you ran this with a vote tally that was given...
The vote on platooning was...
2 votes for Yes
20 votes for No I'll make it 21

The way games have been going I see you pretty much have "free" substitution now, unless you come with 15+ players. Then you have a problem.
Bring it up with the major teams task force going into place. At least they will have a separate ear and voice to vent for ideas and solutions for their own divisions.
Not that any will be used, but there is that chance.
Things have been done this way.

Scott, are you saying there was someone
other than me
who voted for Platooning.
Someone not related to me?

It only takes a few good men or women...

I think it would help team with only 11, 12 or 13
because Old Guys in the sun can use a breather anytime
and also, you can keep the best 10 or 11 batting
which "turns the line up over" quicker.

You started the topic Aug 24, 2006, bashbro1 did a stats summery on the replies.

Another person also started one, I believe was a month earlier, but I did not use that one for these replies.

I think the reason it's not liked is less at bats and actual playing time.
I agree with that.
11- 13 tops for coming to a tournament with...UNLESS ...you have heat to contend with...If your not up to playing a bunch of games, you should not be going anyway.
Sure I see teams with 15 or more at them but do they REALLY feel they get enough...
Great if your not having to pay your own way, but for the ones who do... let us play.
I saw one team a couple of years ago that had 20. not sure which tournament it was but I was flabbergasted. I think it would have been better to split the team and tried it.

My response is to you and it isn't about platooning as I've already expressed my views on that in the past. Rather, it is about the 'proper number of players' a team should carry. As a manager, it is a delicate balance between giving our guys as much playing time as possible, winning games and making certain that you have injuries/fatigue covered.
I have always tried to 'freeze' our roster @ 15. But this season we have 17 and this is because we essentially merged parts of 3 teams. It does make uncomfortable at times.
But... we had 3 antelopes (as opposed to wildebeests) go down within a 10 minute time period (in LV, 2 months ago). With only 15 players we would have been down to 12, which sounds fine until you understand that all 3 were integral to our defense. We were already missing 2 guys before the weekend began as they had conflicts. This would have put us @ 10 (if we didn't have 17 guys on our roster).
We are now a 60 team and, as such, we feel that we need more depth than before. The LVSSA event underscored this need, IMO.
I realize that these facts are only indigenous to our team and not necessarily pertinent to others. But the fatigue factor is always an issue.

BW,
I can honestly relate to your message here. Thinking back on where I saw the 20 players standing around i believe it was in fact Vegas. I just do not remember which assn was putting the tournament on. There were two years I went there 3 times each year.
When the players go down the team usually follows to a point unless as you say there is a person in the wings to take the others place to lessen the impact.
