You should check with someone from the association.
Nothing can be worse than driving or flying to a tournament and then finding out you can't play.
I did the same thing you are talking about and got a release from my team.
My question is since I played Major Plus in the TOC and joined a Major team after that, can I now play with a AAA team (dropping one class)?
I know, don't tell me to contact the association that I wish to play. I just thought I'd throw that out.

Bruce, I do not recall if the rosters from the TOC were based upon the previous season or 2008. However, since GSF did qualify for the TOC (in Dec '07) and, our entire roster was eligible (several of whom turn 60 this calendar year), it seems as if the TOC was based upon our 2008 roster.
As far as you playing AAA, I'd say that this would not be feasible in any way. In essence, you'd be dropping 2 levels. But you'll want to have someone smarter than me (and with real authority) verify this.
KBL, I'd definitely get the written/verbal release... if it's verbal, then the previous mgr needs to speak with someone of authority in the SSUSA office. I personally would want the written form. We had a player travel with us tio Reno last year only to be told that he couldn't play. He finally received the verbal release but not w/o a lot of anguish. The previous mgr could have actually refused to do so... this does happen. Like Bruce said, you'll want to settle this long before you book the travel, etc.

Bob, I was hoping that I could play AAA. I was told that the TOC was last years roster and that I could play AAA. I would have double checked before the tournament.

KBL & Bruce:
I stand corrected... the '08 TOC actually allowed rosters from either '07 or '08 (post Nov 1, '07) qualifiers. That said, playing in the '08 TOC with a team does not require a written release if you didn't play with them after that. I apologize for the misinformation.
