Nov. 22 TaterinGa Men's 50 179 posts | I WOKE UP THIS MORNING I woke up this morning- before the luminous sun shone thru The stars blinked their radiance- against a backdrop of navy blue The air was filled with moisture- the wonderful feel of spring My heart embellished the joy of life- that living in America brings The sun tipped the horizon- with a lateral display of light The stars began to fade away- & slip out with the night No smoke ascended into the sky- from boisterous mortar fire No squads of soldiers roamed the streets- no one was paid for hire My neighbors did not peer thru doors- with guns & ammo in hand Wow! I am so grateful- to live in this free land The water gave a calming elixir- as the soap drained from my skin I did not have to carry it for miles- to make my day begin There was a various array of colors- from my plethora style of clothes As I brushed my teeth & combed my hair- the cologne it soothed my nose The calmative sounds of the radio- spoke peace into my head No potholes in the street from rocket fire- as down the road I sped I looked at police & firemen- as they came passing by They'd help me in a moment's notice- if I let out a cry You see we live in America- & that we should rejoice You can speak, act or do your thing- whether good or of bad voice Maybe for a second- we should think about other lands Where people run & hide all day- from wicked contemptuous bands That minute mental vacation- may give us over sight About the freedom that we cherish- where everyone has their rights So the next time you start to criticize- America home of the free Just think of all those nations that have no liberty 10 AM Atlanta Airport April 8, 2002 Copyrighted John W.
