Dec. 31 einstein Men's 50 3112 posts | I'm happy all the contentious stuff regardless of instigation has been removed from the site. Yet, we have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. SSUSA use feedback to some extent to measure their movements and we need a way to be able to comment honestly and respectfully regarding important policy decisions. Again, if anyone wants to speak wiith me/to me personally about anything I say you can email me at joerinaldi56@yahoo.com and keep the website the respected/respectful forum it needs to be. The "new" rule to change home runs to outs is not right for us, the seniors who play senior softball. I haven't met or talked with one who thinks so. Not only have we been fighting/lobbying for years to make HR's singles, the safety afforded short infielders and the pitcher is demonstrable and most everyone of us "gets" this and agrees it's important to give the big guys an alternative to hitting down and through the infleld. A lot of us also feel important rules have been "changed" and "changing" so much we're weary and distrustful and any more changes especially when profit motives are involved. We enjoy being able to hit a ball far and hard especially as we get older. What's wrong with that. And fundamentally, hitting a ball hard and far is key to enjoying our game. And I also believe in regionalism regarding rules and standards meaning what works in Florida may not work in California and vice versa. These issues are important to us and we and the issues are not going to change our minds without cause. So, Happy Holidays, healthy, honest disagreement and debate are signs of health and strength. Let's not be reluctant or afraid to disagree with anyone about what's important to us both in and ouf of senior softball. Accountability and respect on this site and elsewhere will help carry us a long way. BOB 50 Joe, first let me commend you on a well written post. Especially your openess regarding posting your email address to continue a discussion that may be more appropriate on a one on one basis. Many of the posts on this message board should be handled in a more direct manner. I do want to go on the record, as a pitcher and first baseman on a Major Plus team, that believes the rule to limit home runs with outs after a limit is fine with me. Now, no one should take this statement as a challenge to shoot the middle but if you think you can beat me at first just give it a try. The reason I believe home runs should be outs after a limit is simple. It brings back a balance to the game. It also prevents super teams from forming solely on their ability to hit home runs. I have stated in other posts, regarding the rule changes, that I felt the new rules are fine. I made one exception however; that is to allow the one up rule to still apply after the the home run limit is reached. The reason is simple--the game is obviously being played by two power teams and it would be appropriate in that instance to modify the rule to cover that. Also for the record and for the benefit of Major teams moving up I would like it to be known at least from our experience that there are only a handful of power teams for who these new limits would affect. There has been a lot of talk about home run after home run being hit in Major Plus games but again, especially beyond the 50's these new rules on home runs will not come into play that often. Just my opinion but I may be in the minority on this one. Bob Schulz Travelodge Dec. 31 EINSTEIN Thanks, Bob. Great post and happy holidays. Most of the players I know and play with don't want the bat/ball combo to become less than what SSUSA established this year in Reno and that is,. Good 44x375 balls/1.2 bats. This standard is being challenged as we speak and most of don't want it changed or lessened. This is a legitimate beef especially as we were assured by Fran and Dave that SSUSA would hold to it. Of course, we should be concerned. Of course, we should discuss and question these decisions and movements especially here on SSUSA's website. If not to discuss important matters, thoiughts and decisions what's a website for? Again, Bob, Happy Holidays and maybe we'll see you again some time in the future. |
