Posted | Discussion |
Aug. 27 Joe H 15 posts | I play and ump in a senior 55+ league. A question arose regarding interpretation of SSUSA Rule 1.2 Base on Balls where it says "only one batter at a time can be intentionally walked." Our feeling is that this is confusing as written, but the interpretation we have given to this is that you cannot intentionally walk 2 consecutive batters. Is that the interpretation others are using? If that is the intent, it seems that the wording should have staed something like "back to back intentional walks in same inning are prohibited", or something similar. I appreciate any responses. |

Multiple batters may be walked intentionally on the instruction of the defensive team, but they must be walked sequentially and not as a group. It is also not necessary to throw 4 'balls' to accomplish the intentional walk. |
