Turlock Unleashed
Had a good time at NorCal in Turlock
this weekend save the way the balls faded
when it was hot.
The new spec ball is barely OK when it's cool
and terrible when it's hot, across the board
thanks to letting marketeers
have their way with us.
Had lots of conversations about the balls
and EVERYONE I talked with,
Dave, Kevin et al, agreed the balls have gotten
painfully worse over the last couple of years
taking meaningfully away from our game.
More on that later.
Stanislaus fielded the most powerful team
in the tournament as it seems the talent
turnover from 40's to 50's is evident.
Curly and Gary, Charley, Chris, Mark(s) and the rest of the Chubb boys looked very good, too.

Weather was ideal even though
showers threatened on Saturday.
I heard from Mango
that Courtesy defended their championship
in the midwest and did so without firing a shot
as none of the games of the tournament
could be played.

Lastly,
I saw not one pitcher buzzed by any of the big hitters over the whole tournament.
You see,
we enforce the rule about pitchers being hit
ourselves when we use good bats and balls
and home runs are singles.
(N.B. Terry, Dave et al)
Can't wait for next year.

I'm confused. In the first paragraph you say the balls were "barely OK when it's cool and terrible when it's hot". Then in the last paragraph you say "we enforce the rule about pitchers being hit ourselves when we use good bats and balls."

So were the balls good or not?????
