Balls in Manteca tourney this weekend
Manteca used a Macgregor 44 core 375 compression ball this weekend. Pathetic ball, sounded and felt like a pair of socks rolled up in a ball. As it got hotter the ball got even worse.

It does not surprise me. Try this...our team is notified at 8:30 am that our bracket had been cancelled. The story was that the first two teams REFUSED to play on the field they put us on. After an hour and forty-five min. drive and all ready stuck there...i checked out the field. I CANNOT BLAME THE TWO TEAMS IN THE LEAST. A girls softball field: NO FENCES, NO BATHROOMS, NO CONCESSIONS, WEEDS ON THE INFIELD, NO DOUBLE BASES AT FIRST and now the cheapest garbage balls. It may be inappropriate to mention names but in this case Cathy Cortez was the TD and it looks like another case of let's do some money STEALING by putting on a tournament and sticking it to the Seniors!

Db14,
When I read the fields listed I was shocked. I've never seen some of the ones they used, used before this. That's a worse than a slap in the face for the team that were slotted there. I read the list the day before it was removed from the web site & still gone. Seems quite odd. In all the 12 years I know about I haven't come across that before. Hidden agenda, who knows.
Have the Mrg go to the meeting in Dec, it's about the only time something can be bone. Draft & Present a change to the voting group and have it put to a vote then and there. A lot get done but the ones who are "tight" in thought, usually side together. Meeting is usually 1st weekend (sat) in Dec.

As a member of one of the 1st. two teams who did not want to play the fields were worst than discribed. The outfields were almost under water and there was a large sloping drain in center field @ about 200' and the rest of the outfield was very uneven as well. The infield cut out was just behind the bases ( girls softball ) and there was a very large unkept lip between the infield and outfield. Besides the weeds on the infield there were grooves and ruts as well but there was a bathroom -- a portable about 75 yards away and whos last maintance had to have been sometime last year.

Besides the unplayable conditions what got me was disregard for us as players and planning for our part of the tournament. The directors knew weeks in advance how many teams were in this tourney and to put us there was insulting.

We were told there was a fence. There was on the left side - we (Old A's) took BP on the field with the best shots landing at about 400' - this still was about 150' short of the fence.

The infield was unplayable for both defense & base runners who would have had to run from dirt to grass and back to dirt again circling the bases with a big 4"+ lip to contend with. The lip was about 4-6' behind 2nd base.

There were a lot of dissappointed ball players that had driven quite a way to get there.

Ok, since all this was said why didn't the teams play in Paso Robles this weekend (26-27 Sept)? Great fields and tourney. He had room for teams but as usuall the north stayed north.
Look for the tourney line up for 2010(12 plus) from Ike out of Fresno. Contact him he runs great tourneys (balls, officals, balanced divisions and listens to what teams would like).
Those of you who have played in them, don't be affraid to comment.

You all got robbed it seems, No teams should have to contend with that playability wise or for safety reasons.
Appears to be strictly a monetary reason any division was set for that place.

Not only were the balls and the fields terrible The schedule for our team was for 2:15 and 4:45 on Sat. and because of Problems we were over 90 minutes late starting our games so since it was so dark they turned on the "lights" but since we older guys still couldn't see we agreed to play 5 Innings. We got over at 8PM after spending the whole day in the 90+ degree sun. Not a very Fun Day. They should not be allowed to have another Tournament there

Even Northgate Park was unacceptable in my book. You guys deserved better fields than that.

Would love to give Einstein one of the balls used this weekend. It would have made him appreciate the Trump ball..... somewhat.

As one of the new TD for NCSSA I pounded the internet sending out the flyer for my tourney this coming weekend (10-3&4-09) to play. I obtained field in Merced at Joe Herb Park 3 field with 3 other field available. I was able to field a bracket of 5 at first. I now have a 6 team bracket, due to fast thinking by one of the disappointed coaches who called me in Las Vegas this weekend to enter. (His team played in my May tourney). See you this weekend Angus It's going to be a good bracket as NCSSA's # 1&2 teams will play against 4 others in the top 17.
I guess some teams like throwing away money? Maybe its’ time to give the new guy a chance. We'll be using good balls, Rule knowledgeable umpire, provide appropriate awards, befitting the number of teams entered. It will be a comfortable weekend with a HI of 85 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday with light clouds perfect ball playing weather. I going to try and ensure that the teams and their families have a positive visit to Merced Ca. Hotels and restaurants are 5 to 10 minutes from the park. The City is even allowing RVs to remain on site Saturday night. This is a great tune up for SSUSA World or St George.
I plan to keep this date for next year. Teams from Nevada, Oregon & Washington I will pay your NCSSA registration fee if you come to play in one of my event.

Jef,
I saw the 5 team one earlier thought it was good. Six should prove better. Joe Herb is ok to play in. Been there many times.
I think your team could have fit in as well. Just took a peek at the 6th team good one also.
But you know the drill, with NCSSA, but their ranking IN NOT like any other assn nor is it to what you can pick up... Hopefully at least, you replace that worthless TD from there they had there before.

Made a major mistake on Saturday's schedule and had to correct. I think fixed it as best as possible. It will be a fun weekend.

They have made a lot of improvement at the park. I think the players are going to like it. I’m not going to say bad things about other TD's. I just want to have an event that teams will come and enjoy themselves. As a player I look at the things that bother me at tourneys and try to improve upon it. I use to do the flat belly tourney up until about 8 years ago. Too much drama. I would just like to get things going for NCSSA further south in the Valley. Had a So Cal team contact me but didn't have a bracket for them.
We played in Vegas over the weekend. Had a few injuries one guy is out for the season with a broken ankle. Not going to world. We've had a very good season thus far. God willing. We will heal and get back in the game.

I was grumpy about field conditions in Manteca last weekend until I read about the high school field! Makes my field seem like the Huntsman.

We had the same ball—high seams, not much pop, and because of the overwatered condition of the outfield, picked up moisture during the game and became heavier and deader. Kudos to the one batter who hit one over the fence (at only 270). No one else even reached the fence!

My guess is that rec department has limited maintenance funds and used some leftover fast pitch balls. Our outfield grass was good, but it needed to be mowed. Our batters box was deeply rutted. Infield OK for hot weather location, but not very deep. And why there is NO shade for dugout and fans, on a field where 90+ temperature is routine, is a mystery.

We played at Morenzone and the outfield in spots was dangerous. Leaking sprinkler head left a large swamp-like area. No field maintenance at all. Games were nearly 1.5 hours behind on Sunday
