And because I love numbers...

Born in 1955 (me) are now 55!
Born in 1950 are now 60!

I also love talking to guys 47, 48 and 49 still playing young men's ball. Some are in great shape and still playing well, many complain about how old they feel. I just smile and say "You just hang in there, you're going to love playing Sr ball!"

Shane didn't you run a tournament your way where you got some 40 teams out? Good way to keep these guys interested and when they turn 50 bingo. We're working hard down here in Vegas to get the 40's going. We got an open 40 league going this year. We have a very good 40 team entered in the Winter worlds and almost had another (had the players no administrator maybe it will be together for the spring worlds). When I first started senior ball we didn't have any 50 teams in town, now we have two and who knows maybe another. Got some really good players turning 50 over the next several years so hopefully the two teams here in town will only get better.

Lecak: A couple estblished 40's teams
up here were looking to play a senior
event all year. They contacted me and
we ran a division with 3 40's and 1 50M+
in August. We're hoping to run more
events in 2010 and include all
divisions. I also hope some 40's will
get interested in joining our leagues.
We intend to run a Spring League March-
April, then Summer May-July, and Fall
August-September.

Vinny I'll keep this positive. I'm pretty sure you hit on Tues and Thursday's. I know that there are at least 3 or 4 other guys around your age that are looking to put a team together, Bobby, Bruce and Howard, to name a few. Jeff Satterlee and myself also have a list of some other names. Start your own team 50 AAA or 55 AAA or even major. There is no click, but the lord helps those who help themselves. We get 8 tournaments in town next year between Mesquite and Las Vegas it would be ashame for you to sit around and miss them. See me and I'll talk to Jeff and we can probably give you enough names to form a team. One of you guys is going to have to step up though and organize it.

If you want these 40+ teams to be around when they turn 50+ they better start getting welcomed in these tournaments. A NW 40+ team that was trying to get started in senior softball last season was denied access in all local tournaments until Shane ran one for them in August.

Jawood, I hope the two issues can be
solved from now on - 1 Too few Major/
Major+ Teams, 2 Too few 40+ teams. As
long as a combined division is
acceptable to both. Smaller local
tournaments here in Wasington will still
struggle to accomodate you however it
should be possible in most of the SSUSA
events (more in 2010). Anything with
"Championship" on it requires "pure"
divisions, even if it's only two teams.
Even so, pool play can allow you to play
outside your "pure" division and not
play the same team 4-5 times!

Keep in mind entry fees may be a bit
higher for the top division so I can
hire someone to chase balls!

Part of the problem is there are too many tournaments that have "championship" attached to it. The most important thing in local tournaments is games played. I would much rather play a tournament where we can play 5-6 games against a variety of teams and call it a weekend than play some sort of "championship" against one team 2 out of 3. Lower classified teams don't mind playing upper teams for the most part if it's just once in a while.
