Great time in Fremont
Thanks Lanny Witt and his crew
for a great weekend of softball
in NorCal.
Their snack bar is the best I've ever
experienced since playing senior ball.
Chicken sandwiches grilled bar-b-cue
style outside to die for.
I had to have 2.
Terrific teams and great guys
just like always with East Bay Oldies,
The Longhorns, Conklin Bros.,
Chubb and the talented and pesky
Quick Silver.
We, the Barons, had a blast.
But easily the hero of the event
was Mark Greene who plays for the Barons.
Mark is a retired fireman
and cracked 2 bats in BP on Saturday
but found a senior bat on the practice
field while were leaving and turned
it in without saying a word to anyone of us.
I find out from Lanny that the guy
who lost it was gratefully teary-eyed
when Lanny said someone had turned in
the bat as he never expected to see it
again.
Way to go, Mark Greene.
He made all of us senior ball players
look good.
We used Baden Fire balls which seemed
to hold up very well and were lively
all the way through the games.
Thanks, again Lanny and NorCal
for a great weekend.

einstein; congrats on the well deserved win, it was a pretty tough bracket to not lose a game.

Thanks, Kurt and Angus.
It's great to play against the best teams for all of us for all the right reasons.
We'll keep getting and make each other better en route to nationals.
Mango of the Mavericks
emailed me, looking to come up
and play in NorCal a couple of times
and I hope they make the trip.
I told him the best deal of the year
for anyone would be to come to
the Big League Dreams NCSSA FINAL
in August and play for gold watches.

We'll be in Turlock, too, Curt.
Let's get together and check
schedules so we can play against each other as often as possible.
You've got a squad
of terrific players and guys.
You're the best, Kurt.
See you in Turlock.

Congrats, einstein, on your tournament victory in Fremont, especially with a new team...and against teams like the Longhorns. Heard you were playing there but couldn't get there to watch you and the Barons.

Thanks, again Kurt.
I don't believe the dates go against
anything SSUSA is doing locally or anyone else but August 21, 22 will be the NCSSA
championships at the Big League Dreams
complex in Manteca and we'd love to see
Goodman and the Mavericks and the Bandits
and whomever spend the 30 bucks to join our association (per team) and come on out for great tournament with bragging rights and individual awards for both first and second place.
You've heard me say we've got the best teams in the country before, right?
Now it's time to put your money
on the table and check us out.
Mango and Marco?
We're affiliated with SSUSA, also
and go by most of their rules
but HR's are singles in NCSSA
with HR equalizer at 1.
Let me know and go to the ncssa website
for more info.
Hey Johnny.
Thanks and you'd love these guys.
They're monster players AND great guys.
You're kinda team, the Barons.
Johnny and the Barons has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
Old Rock and Rol-ish

OK, you're OK and thanks for the recognition.
You need to introduce yourself
to me sometime in NorCal so we can smile and have a hug.
Lastly, and maybe Kevin can weigh in on this with his knowledge about balls
and bats.
I like the Baden Fire ball for the most part but I heard and felt something
both hitting and watching that sounded like a broken bat think maybe it was the ball.
Does something happen to the core
of a ball that would make it lose its
integrity/bounce, make a popping sound and what would that be?

Oh. I forgot to mention about George.
He's a monster with a bat, Johnny.
He was killin' it and hit's better
when the game is on the line.
Typical George.

Thanks for the kind words. It was good to see you and also congrats. to your new team. To have Mark turn in that bat shows what kind of teammate you have. A class act! This bat belonged to a player from the team that came from SoCal to attend the tourn. I'm sure they went back home with a lot of respect for the NorCal guys.
