Anyone want to buy a FODBLD? Granite Park
The park in Fresno is for sale...

Needs work, a lot, but great, 3 field park.
Fenway park, 239 to left and out to 300 in center and right field. 45 foot green wall, so like witting 300 if you go over. Building behind Fenway and foot traffic...
Wrigley, 300 around and street behind with houses.
SBC or Polo Fields, 306 around I believe. Has empty lot behind that were soccer fields and dirt parking.
35-45 foot walls on these two.
Fresno trying to find buyer.
Plenty of new parking. Restaurants there now as well.
Could be a great place again.

taits, what do you think on the business model failed at this BLD? Not enough softball players in area? Scared off by entrance fee? No Miken Ultras? Too hot to play in summer? Not enough capital to pay costs until recovered by years of play? Just curious, not planning on investing in it! LOL

I used to talk tot he engineers who built the park from the day they placed the first beams in the ground for the outfield walls.
I really believe it was originally done with good intentions, soccer fields ball park shops restaurants, hotel hall of fame museum all were in the plans, I was shown them.
Somewhere along the planning stage and shortly after the completion of the ball park and the soccer fields, and some parking lot space I think greed set in. that is about the time the city got involved in it and are now on the hook for the 38 mil for everything.
They had ample kids groups and games going on to sustain it but the got greedy in how run. I was close to getting the seniors there to use an anchor
League for them but two sticking points kept it from happening paying the umps which would have been easily solved by us providing out own and the use of fields time from their 8 week schedule to our 15 and 10 week schedule which I believe could have been handled easily with a break in our 1st session and the next altered by one day so it would have equaled out.
I treid to warn the city that they would eat the 38 mil but deaf ears prevailed as they do now on it. I've tried twice to contact the asst city mgr and another city official about just using the ball fields and maintaining them for it doesn't go wasted. But they have other ideas I guess.
It could be a viable park once reborn to be playable. The park was used every night of the week until the city paid the monies to "help" them. then it went down hill...That is why I knew someone was just out to make the money and leave. His name is all over as original builder and owner. Another well know guy got involved but I believe later along the line got out, not sure there.
When I put tournaments on there my arrangement was that no entry fees would be charged. When the kids groups had then they had gate fees to enter.
I was also the only park allowed to use the U-2. But don't forget this was a privately owned BLD, not direct connection to the others at that time.
Yes, it get hot here, but no more so than Sac, Reno or Vegas.
Recovery cost is indeterminable, depending on all the factors one would have to factor in on what you would do to referb the place... and them what and how you would charge to off set it. But it isn't a short term thing, couldn't be.
I believe the city has a price tag of around 5 mil for it with no takers. But are looking for private investors to get it...
City has a great place, if they would just use it again.

Thanks, taits. It was enlightening. You really got involved trying to improve the situation. Probably every one in a position like yours (TD, League Director, etc.) has been frustrated now and then by the bureaucracy of a city position that makes little sense, but is "following the rules" or worse, is covertly trying to please a powerful person or organization. Let's hope this park can be saved. A BLD that allow U-2s!

Omar,
The park I believe cost 38 mil to build but included the land of 38 acres with the 6 or so soccer fields.
Yes, I am very passionate about the game and trying to represent the masses.
Without the masses they have no following, so you NEED a win\win situation to work well.
Right now I feel the scales are heavy on one side.
This is one good thing ncssa does once a year, player input (via managers) even with the same board and area reps overall, every year, they do have a chance to change it.
I try to make them but not always able to like last year.
Fresno plays favorites when it comes to booking events for sure.
