Sept. 1 Hoover 11 posts | A few years ago I played for a while in Redwood City, Ca. Sometimes there were only enough players for 3 teams. They had a way of structuring the teams so that all 3 could play each other with one team sitting for 3 outs on a rotating basis. Can anyone refresh my old brain and explain how they did it? |
Sept. 1 DaveDowell Men's 70 4323 posts | Hoover ... That's a GREAT memory jogger question for me ... I played that format one year in college softball intramurals and here was the format ... It was a rec. only league (no standings) and the games were 6 "innings" long ... The scorecard had 3 lines, one for each team, and the sequence was that each team played Offense, to Defense to the Bench (which was in the foul area outside the lines ... After 6 'innings' were played, the 'winner' was the team with the most runs (duh!), regardless of who they got them against ... The most difficult thing was that it was so long ago, keeping score with an abacus was a pain! ... DAVE |
Sept. 1 Hoover 11 posts | Thanks for the response Dave. In your college days, the players could get on and off the field much quicker than we can now. In order to speed the game up they had a way of, after the first inning, you stayed in the field for six outs and when you were batting, you batted for a total of six outs. And, like you did, one team was always sitting out three outs. It worked out well, but was really confusingfor me in the beginning and I had to just watch someone on my team and when he picked up his glove, I knew it was time to hit the field. |
