Dec. 12 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | What you may not remember or know about SEARS support for the troops. Got it from a fellow player. You should consider shopping at Sears if your not done with it. If for no other reason that helping them in return. Sears - Christmas shopping this year. > From Ben Stein - - - > > I know I needed this reminder, since Sears isn't always my first choice. > It's amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and Sears hasn't > withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at > Sears this year? > > How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing > more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up for active duty. > Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. > > I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears at least once, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement & feedback it well deserves. > > Pass it on. > > I decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department: > > I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for your > company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that store. > > This is their answer to my e-mail: > > Dear Customer: > > Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback. > > Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our young men and women can make. We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time. > > Bill Thorn > Sears Customer Care > webcenter@sears.com > > 1-800-349-4358 > > Please pass this on to all your friends. Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our military!!! > > It's verified ! By Snopes.com > |

Dec. 12 The real deal Men's 70 114 posts | Thanks, taits, for the awesome post. And JR, your post put a lump in my throat and brought a tear to my eye. I think I'll be shopping at Sears this week... |
Dec. 12 Randimal Men's 60 2 posts | Thank you for bringing this to my attention, and I will buy something from Sears in the next week or two. With all negative dialogue that sometimes permeates this time of the year, this was a great post. I am thankful for the men in uniform. |
Dec. 13 birdie Men's 70 802 posts | taits, I will do the same!!! Is it just Sears or their other stores. I thought that they owned K/Mart would like to know if it is only Sears stores or everybody that they own. K/Mart is closer to me. If we can not find out Sears it will be. It is a shame that they are so low keyed about this. With all the Vets in this country that could be huge. Thanks Harry |
Dec. 13 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | birdie, Sears owns Orchard Supply, that one I know, but I'm not sure about k-mart or any other company that has the same great policy. Check their web site for contact info at the corporate level. Go to the store and ask a manager to check and email you on what is found out if he doesn't know. |
Dec. 14 oldnslow 19 posts | I've passed over this post any number of times since it appeared. Just read it and am so glad I did. Bravo Sears!! Great post!!!! Semper Fi!!! |
Dec. 21 birdie Men's 70 802 posts | taits, Since most of us guys shop late. This should be on the first page. I went to Sears today for the first time in 15 years maybe. I went and found the store manager and it was interesting trying to get to talk to him. When I told him why I was there he got a big smile on his face. it was well worth it. Thanks Harry |
Dec. 21 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | I doubt many, if any of the larger chains do half as much. |
Dec. 21 MartyM Men's 75 56 posts | Sears also owns Lands End in Wisconsin. I will contact them Wed and see what their policy is and report back. Semper Fi back to oldnslow! Bet you remember a hell hole called Paris Island! |
Dec. 21 armiho211 Men's 70 449 posts | i also had a problem with sears about 12 yrs ago. i was a frequent shopper there over the years. my problem: i bought a used car from a friend, he had just bought 2 tires from sears for the car. 1 week after i bought the car, one of the tires developed a big bubble on the side. i took the car and invoice copy to my local sears, they told that because the tires went not in my name that they could not honor replacing the tire. " that was their policy". i got no help from the manager, i told him i would not shop at sears anymore, and i havent. i may re-consider after reading this post. |
Dec. 22 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | armiho211, If you get tires from anyone check the manufacturers date on them. Don't get old ones. Say over two years. I haven't had any trouble returning stuff there. But I either have a receipt or say a battery for my car which I have done many times, was my own car. |
Dec. 22 curveball Men's 65 705 posts | armiho211 That's a pretty standard policy for stores and manufacturers. Heck, look at the bats we swing. It's hard with lots of companies to send back a bat in someone elses name. Sears, keep up the good work. This post got me to spend some of my Christmas spending at Sears. Made me feel proud, kinda like I was helping out! |
Dec. 22 zonk 55 posts | I will be going to Sears and buy some stuff. This is the way employers should do it. |
