May 16 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Congrats to Randy Smith and all the other winners that competed in Pensacola this past weekend. We, Southern Elite, were able to beat Randy Smith in the championship game of the 50 Gold division but came up short in the "if" game. Bad thing was that we didn't leave there until 6:30pm with a 5 hour drive to look forward to. |
May 17 Senior Moments Men's 60 66 posts | Bruce -- The Pensacola scheduling was not the best in many ways, late games on Sunday for the 50-60 Divisions being just one of them. #1 -- Pensacola's first attempt at playing the "play-back" 5 game guarantee. #2 -- Teams still playing after their 5 game guarantee and 2 bracket loses. #3 -- Directors were under the impression that it was a "triple" elimination format until it was pointed out that the brackets were incorrect. #4 -- Fields were empty while teams were sitting and waiting to play. (No Umpires) #5 -- Teams playing down 2 brackets and getting the 5 run equalizer Example: 70 Major Plus played 65 AAA and received the equalizer, plus 11 defensive players. I hope Mike and the Pensacola hosts will review this tournament and learn from it. I enjoy playing in Pensacola and this will not deter us from returning. Senior Moments Softball Shelby Simmons |
May 17 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Sidelines Grille, 55 AAA had to give The Wild Bunch, a 60 M team 5 runs! Friday morning we found out that we were now rated 50 M+, having to gives runs to teams like Randy Smith and Kittrels. After several calls we remained M. We never saw any empty fields nor did we have a 5 game guarentee. |
May 17 hombre Men's 60 240 posts | I'm a big fan of SPA tournaments, but this weekend in Pensacola left a bad taste in my mouth. The TD allowed M or M+ teams to drop down to play younger AAA teams in several age groups. Then the AAA team had to give the higher ranked teams five runs or an extra player. It's my opinion that they should be playing even up. Or better yet, let the teams play in their own age brackets and give the AAA teams five runs, if there are enough teams. Also a M ranked team was allowed to play AAA straight up in pool and then had to give up 5 runs or an extra player in elimination. They should have been allowed to play with the same rules the entire tournament. Just my opinion again, they should use the three pool game five guarantee format. What are your thoughts? |
May 17 turn2 489 posts | The 60 major team should have played the 55 aaa team straight up. No runs should have been given. This sounds like another tournament where the directors just make up what ever rules they want. If it is a Spa tourney they should have someone there that knows the rules and can follow them. May 17 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Donnie, that's what I had expected. Will Trun 2 be in Salem, Va?? |
May 17 hombre Men's 60 240 posts | The TD apparently was using the EQUALIZER rule, Sec. 23, but didn't take the playing level of the teams into consideration. |
May 18 turn2 489 posts | Bruce, Yes we will be there. We will probably get stuck in the 55 division since there will be no 60's. The equalizer rule does work but like I said the TD's need to leard the rules or Spa needs to find someone who can. If they are going to make up the rules why not just call it a open tournament with anything goes? Donnie |
May 18 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | We were recently put in the looser's bracket by a 40+ team. The only difference then was that they had to use utrip bats. Everything else was the same, courtesy runner rule included. We are seeing if we will have a strong enough team to compete in Salem. Good luck! |
