Rule 9.4 states that if a foul ball third strike is caught in playable territory the ball remains LIVE. However, rule 9.1W states that the ball is DEAD when a foul ball third strike is caught.
I believe that rule 9.1W is WRONG and should be deleted. Any comments?

As far as I know you are correct.

Section 9.1W (on page 68) has the mis-print/omission. The section should have read: When a foul tip is caught and the batter has two strikes. ... This is a strike-out and the ball is dead ... Note: A foul tip must rise above the batter's head for the provision to apply.

Section 9.4 (on page 69) is correct as written, notwithstanding the obvious language conflict with Section 9.1W ... We apologize for the mistake and will correct it in the next printing of the rulebook ... Good catch on that, and thanks!

Dave and Staff.
Does the pitcher have the right/ability
to intentionally distract the batter
which is against the rules as written
in the SSUSA rule book?
Yes or no.

With all due respect, SSUSA,
if you don't think this is an issue that needs
to be dealt with and defined by and for us
you're all getting paid too much.

It's simple.
A whole genre of pitching, let's call it
ASA style is characterized by lack of deception
and distracting movements by the pitcher.
A team of players
at the highest level of capability
and achievement, thought in Reno,
as did I that the character
of the pitching was LEGITIMATELY challenged at times and is now in question.
The rule states "no fielder is allowed to intentionally distract the batter" without further qualification.
It's clear to me that
that includes the pitcher
which provides the legal grounding
for the character of pitching we've all gotten used to in senior ball for at least as long
as I've been playing some 14 years now.

Guys like AC Linde, Mickey Hughes,
Mark Huber, Billy of the Nighthawks,
Ray and Jerry of the Redwood City Reds,
Garth of the Dawgs, Perry of the Barons,
Eric Hoff of MTC, Brownie of East Bay, Mikey of MTC 50's last year, just to name a few,
are all stand up fearless men of true grit,
great pitchers and terrific exemplars of
"no deception", stand up,
respectful but in your face,
mano a mano men
who have defined the role of of pitcher for all of us courageously and excellently.
They are my colleagues, mentors, friends, opponents and all examples
of a style that has been meaningfully and respectfully defined and demonstrated
for YEARS.

So now,
there's been a challenge by Tim Millette
and some younger guys as to the character
of our pitching.
Not a problem.
I think the world of Tim
and Donny is a great pitcher/player on the Northwest Legends who are now, the best senior team in the country as anyone would know
who watched them play in Reno.
But we need some clarification going forward as others will be challenging and changing soon.

On one hand,
let's open it up U-trip style, 3-12 arc.
We could even go 1-1 count which I would love
as a pitcher and a batter but
it would change the game we're used to playing
in some very well defined ways.
On the other, lot's of older guys will have to change as well as get/hit more hot balls through
the middle for a variety of reasons.

And to keep controversy/arguing/bad feeling/
tension
all of which were present at Reno
to a minimum and
umps, TD's, fans and opponents from arguing
and creating more instead of less tension/conflict
on and off the field
we do need and deserve some CLARIFICATION.
