SPA Question????
Seems like there are a lot of negatives about SPA tournaments except for Dalton. Ridge was actually at Dalton to oversee the proceedings and I thought it was excellent. My question is: if Ridge would retire, does SPA go away or is there someone out there to takeover and maybe even improve the SPA.

Maybe SSUSA will swallow them up too.

Jawood: don't think that is a good idea; I like SSUSA very much, but we need more than 1 org.

I have attended many SPA tourneys over the past 12 years & this is just a glitch @ MB.

At Pensy, everyone in the Park knew that the rosters of the 2 teams in question were Major or above, but before the tourney ended, it was corrected. Most ALL players know the CLASS ID of another player if he has been playing for any length of time.

I, for one, am for a data base that is @ every tourney, then every player's ID classification is known. Also, at every "renewal", your NEW ID number will be followed by AA, AAA, M or M+, so when the roster is filled in, there is NO doubt what class you play. Even at present, every player's class can be ID'd & players will have to add their class @ the end of their number until their renewed cards come.

PS Still Need a Yearly Player Poll for other questions that we frequently talk about on this board in reference to ALL organizations.

I agree, Tater50. I didn't like the takeover of LVSSA.

Jawood sometimes it not about the softball. The City of Las Vegas will do a great job with these tournaments and God knows we need it.

The Midwest Championships used to be in Champaign Illinois in July. Now they hold it in Shawnee, Kansas. Which for us in the Chicago area is to far to go, about 9 hour drive. I would think the upper states have the same problem as distance. Maybe another association could look into that nice complex for that month which more teams might go to. Just a thought.

I was not involved in this, but in talking to parties that were. This is a win/win for the LVSSA and SSUSA.

The only downside and personally I don't think it is a downside, there are fewer HOF points available because your eliminating one complete national championship.

Maybe, because of the size of the tourney a compromise can be reached that increases the number of awards by 1/2. Instead of 13 maybe 18. 1st team through 5th team.

The only one that can answer that one is Ridge. the SPA board are meeting in Dallas Nov 17th to discuss alot of things that gone wrong this year. Without Ridge being present sometimes the change of command is sometimes not as good when problems arise because you are spending money that not yours to spend.
Myrtle Beach is a prime example when fields was taken at the last second. We had to jump thur so many hoops with the city and the responseable person and try to find other fields out in the county so we could just hold the tourney because the teams were already there or coming in with hotel already paid for. In the past Ridge would go and do all the footwork himself and make sure everything is correct and not trust others to do it for him.
this another thing will be talked about in Dallas along with many other subjects.

You might want to consider a claim (or lawsuit) against Myrtle Beach and use the refund to disperse to affected teams. Sounds like you put in a lot of extra effort to get the fields you did.
