Memorial Service for Steve Simmons
Steve Simmons’ family has released the following information concerning services for Steve:

A memorial service will be performed in Rhode Island on Sunday and the funeral will take place in Minnesota next Friday.

I would like to thank you all again for all your support and prayers. Your love is what is getting us through this tragic time.

Following is the obituary that will be printed in the Beacon tomorrow, the Minneapolis Star Tribune on Sunday and made available atwww.murphyfuneralhomes.org. An abbreviated obituary will be available in the Providence Journal tomorrow with the link for the funeral home:

Simmons, Steven T. age 67 of Shorewood, MN went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2012 following a tragic boating accident in Rhode Island. He was a member of Excelsior Covenant Church.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, George and Edna Simmons. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who love him. Steve is survived by his wife of almost 40 years Nancy, children Melissa and Jeremy, grandchildren Lane and Dalton, brother Kenny Simmons (Bernice), sisters Debbie Aldrich (Geoff), Martha Miller (Garry), Susan Beauchemin (Michael) and Amy Marseglia (Bob) and many cousins including close double cousins, nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.

Steve was born and raised in Warwick, RI, graduated from Pilgrim HS in 1963 and URI in 1971 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Steve was employed as a Mechanical Engineer until his retirement from Marathon Oil Refinery at which time he fulfilled his lifelong dream of playing softball full time and running senior softball tournaments.

He leaves behind many dear softball friends including friend and associate Terry Hennessy. Besides being deeply devoted to his family, Steve was loved by many for his energy, genuine compassion, dedication, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Memorial service Sunday, 2pm at St Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 15 Lower College Rd, Kingston, RI,.

Funeral service will be Friday, 11am at Excelsior Covenant Church, 19955 Excelsior Blvd, Excelsior, MN. A private interment will be performed at Resurrection Cemetery, 680 Mill St, Excelsior, MN on Friday prior to the service.
