Cow Town Classic Kicks off 2017 Midwest Series

SHAWNEE, KAN. – The fourth annual Cow Town Classic kicked off the 2017 Midwest Series here at Mid-America Sports Complex on March 30 – April 2 with 38 teams in play from Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.

Along with the Cow Town Classic, the Oil City Classic (Tulsa, OK; May 4-7), the Missouri Open (Columbia, MO; June 1-4) and the Kansas City Classic (Lee's Summit, MO; August 10-13) make up the four legs of the Midwest Series.

In the single elimination bracket to determine the champion in the five-team Men’s 50 Major Plus/Major division, KC Classics (MO) defeated Iowa Demons (IA), 29-22, in the championship game.

The eight-team Men’s 50 AAA division featured top seed Midwest Connection (NE) coming back to defeat Drury Inn Road Dogs (MO), 21-14, in the “if” game, after falling in the championship game, 14-9. TSS (KS) finished in third place. Drury Inn Road Dogs posted a 3-0 record to come out of the elimination side of the bracket, en route to their eventual runner-up finish.

In the three-team Men’s 55 Major division, where a full round robin was used to determine the champion, J & J’s Sports (IA) took the top spot defeating both 50 Caliber Plus-St. Louis (MO) and Midwest Driving School (KS). 50 Caliber finished in second, while Midwest Driving School finished third.

Nebraska Silver Bullets (NE) swept through the double elimination bracket in the four-team Men’s 55 AAA/AA division, including a 30-15 win over KC Renegades 55’s (MO) in the championship game. Reco Nebraska (NE) finished in third place.

The five-team Men’s 60 Major division featured a single elimination bracket won by Sports Image (MO). KC Renegades 60’s posted a runner-up finish.

MN Lumberjacks (MN) won the four-team Men’s 60 AAA/AA division, edging out Bags Softball 60 (IA), 19-18, in the championship game.  Redwings (MO) finished in third place.

KC Kids (KS) won the four-team Men’s 65 Major/AAA division, defeating Boyd Metals (AR) in the championship game, 23-13. The Dugout 65 (KS) finished in third place.

Midwest Express 70’s won the three-team Men’s 70 AAA division, defeating both KC Renegades 70’s (MO) and U.S. Pallet 70 (MO), while Midwest Driving School (KS) defeated Mid-America Patriots (KS) in a best two-out-of-three game series in the Men’s 75 AAA division.
