2017 Quad Cities Classic Recap

Rock Island, IL – The 2017 Quad Cities Classic was held here at Alan Campbell Rock Island Sports Complex with 39 team competing from, June 20-25.

The tournament featured a passing of the guard, as long-time Quad Cities Classic tournament director, Gus Linke, worked his final tournament following a 22-year run. Kenny Chard, who had been assisting Gus with the 50/55 age divisions over the past three years, will be taking over the entire tournament full-time starting in 2018.

Senior Softball-USA would like to thank Gus for his years of service to the game.

Chicago Panthers won the Men’s 60’s AAA/AA division, defeating Chicago Prime 60’s, 17-13, in the championship game.

Chicago Prime 65’s won the Men’s 65 AAA/AA division, defeating Fossils 65, 16-14, in the championship game.

Rain halted the Men’s 70 division, as Chicago Strikers was declared the Major champion and U.S. Pallet declared the AAA champion.

In the Men’s 75 AAA division, Senior Red Birds 75 defeated Quad City Old Stars, 18-7, in the championship game.

The weekend session consisted of 17 teams, playing in three divisions.

Team Illinois scored eight runs in the top of the open en route to their 22-16 victory over Big Hurt Softball to win the Men’s 50 AAA division.

Milwaukee Merchants 60’s played in the Men’s 55 AAA/AA division, earning the top spot via its 5-0 record in round robin play. Nebraska 60’s finished second with a 4-1 mark. Antiques of Iowa City finished in third place.

J & J’s Sports/Miken/demons won the 55 Major division with a 4-0 record, including a 22-16 win over Buster’s Bar & Grill/Benny & Son’s, who finished in the runner-up spot following its victory over WC Thunder, 20-17. Chi Town 55’s finished in third place.
