34 Teams Compete at Gold Glove Spectacular

Arizona Old School 55 - Men's 55/60 Major Champions

PHOENIX - Thirty-four teams battled at the 2020 Gold Glove Spectacular here at Papago Park Softball Complex and Rose Mofford Sports Complex, Feb. 8-9. An Arizona mainstay, this tournament dates back to 1987.

In the six-team Men’s 40 Major Division, Arizona Old Spice posted a perfect weekend, going 2-0 in seeding play and 3-0 in bracket play, including a 21-18 win over K&B Beverage/AG Painting/D Bat in the championship game.

Grinding through the elimination side of the bracket on Sunday, Big Hawks won back-to-back games en route to their third-place finish. Big Hawks had entered bracket play with an 0-2 record in seeding play, before bouncing back with a 3-2 mark in the bracket.

In the four-team Men’s 40 AAA Division, Whatever also finished a flawless weekend, going 2-0 in seeding play and 3-0 in bracket play, including a 31-18 win over Joker’s Wild.

After dropping their opening bracket game, Joker’s Wild rebounded with two straight wins in the elimination side of the bracket to eventually finish in second place.

Desert Bombers rounded out the top three finishers.

In the four-team Men’s 50 Major Division, a four-game seeding setup into a single-elimination bracket was used to determine the champion.

Following a 3-1 record in seeding play, AZ Heat went 2-0 in the bracket, including a 24-17 win over Team Krank in the championship game.

In the three-team Men’s 50 AAA Division, a two-game round-robin final on Sunday was used to determine the champion.

All teams would end the day with equal 1-1 records, as Lokahi AZ defeated Tucson Haammertime Softball, 17-16; Tucson Hammertime Softball defeated Xtreme, 20-16; and Xtreme defeated Lokahi AZ, 16-14.

Tiebreakers would come down to least runs allowed, with Lokahi AZ squeaking out on top allowing 32 runs. Tucson Hammertime Softball allowed 33 runs, while Xtreme allowed 34 runs.

In the three-team Men’s 55/60 Major Division, Arizona Old School 55 went 2-0 in Sunday’s two-game round-robin final, with victories over Unforgotten Warriors 55, 21-11, and AZ Legends 60, 26-22.

AZ Legends defeated Unforgotten Warriors, 31-23, in their match-up.

In another three-team division, the Men’s 55 AAA Division, Graywolves won both of its games in Sunday’s two-game round-robin final. The team defeated KSS Taco Bell 19-16 in their first game, followed by a 21-16 win over Thunderstruck.

Thunderstruck defeated KSS Taco Bell, 23-18, in their match-up.

In the five-team Men’s 55 AA/60 AAA/65 Major Plus Division, AZ Ancient 65 posted a perfect 2-0 record in bracket play, including a 23-14 win over Santisi Brothers 60 in the championship game.

In the six-team Men’s 65/70 Division, Tri-State Diamondbacks 70 went 2-0 in the single elimination bracket, including a 20-17 win over Bucky’s Casino 65 in the championship game.
