SSUSA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FRAN DOWELL WINS NATIONAL AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

SACRAMENTO, CA (Feb. 20, 2012) – SportsEvents magazine named Fran Dowell, Senior Softball-USA Executive Director, one of the top 12 sports promoters in America in its latest edition.

Fran Dowell, who became the first woman to be named Executive Director in the history of the sport in 2006, was recognized for serving as “the heart of the group and for her ability to establish solid relationships.”

The magazine recognized Dowell with its Award of Excellence “for exhibiting outstanding professionalism, creativity and dedication in the sports event planning industry.”

Sacramento-based Senior Softball-USA is the largest of the 8 national softball associations offering senior softball programs. There are an estimated 16.7 million softball players over 50 in the United States. Of those players, about 30,000 compete at the national level.

“Fran Dowell began with us in 1998 as a part-time bookkeeper and greatly exceeded our expectations in every job she did,” said Terry Hennessy, Chief Executive Officer of Senior Softball-USA. “She flat out earned the position. She has become one of the best known people in the sport in America and one of the most respected.”
