Lucky SSUSA Golf Team Wins for Kids Home

Dec. 1, 2012

PHOENIX – During the Winter World Championships here, SSUSA got lucky in a charity golf tournament — and it benefitted a very worthy children’s home.

The Winter Worlds tournament schedule prevented SSUSA staff from actually participating in the golf festivities on Friday, so they did the next best thing. SSUSA sponsored a foursome scholarship entry to allow four members of the Sunshine Acres Children’s Home staff to play in the tournament.

And like softball, golf sometimes brings very pleasant surprises.

The SSUSA scholarship foursome won the tournament! What followed was even more impressive, as those winners turned around and donated their $500 first place prize money right back to the Children’s Home.

“SSUSA was honored to support the 15th annual Shootout for Sunshine Benefit Golf Tournament at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa,” said Dave Dowell, Winter World tournament director.

Gary Ingle of CJ&S Express 55’s, who has made a career of helping the children of the Sunshine Acres Children’s Home where no child in need has ever been turned away, had asked SSUSA to join their family this year.

“The care and generosity of everybody involved with the Sunshine Acres Children’s Home is an inspiration, and we are happy to have played a small part in their success this year,” said Dowell.

“We are looking forward to next year already, will publicize the event and encourage the SSUSA membership to consider mixing in a little golf with their softball in 2013.”
