Milwaukee Classic – Wirth Park, Friday May 17th Thru Sunday May 19th, 2013

June 1, 2013

MILWAUKEE, WI - The eleventh annual Milwaukee Classic softball tournament held at Wirth Park, Brookfield Wisconsin hosted a record tying 29 teams in age brackets from 50 to 75. The weather was ideal for softball on Saturday and Sunday, but a complete wash out on Friday. Because the Milwaukee area had many activities, graduations, concerts, etc. the 65 and 70 teams could not finish the scheduled games on Sunday, because all hotels and Motels were booked.

The competition in all 5 age bracket divisions was great, Rockford Orthopedics’, a new team to the tournament, took the 50’s division with Windy City Thunder taking second. In the 55’s division Chicago Classics Panthers won followed by Milwaukee Merchants. In the 5 team 60 division, Handeland Flooring was the champs followed by Mitchells/Studz for second place. In the 8 team 65 bracket Michaels with a 5 and 0 record took the crown with Oshkosh Ambassadors claiming second with a 3 and 2 record. In the 70 division, Oshkosh Ambassadors won the tournament with Michaels 70’s taking 2nd place.

The tournament benefited the Wounded Warrior Project, (woundedwarriorproject.org) and a highlight aside of the great senior softball games was a fly over on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. by vintage military planes, provided by the Wisconsin War Hawks.

Mark your calendars for the 16th, 17th and 18th, of May, 2014 for the twelfth annual Milwaukee Classic, and based on this years’ results the tournament should be bigger and more competitive than ever.
