Hawai‘i Hosts January Senior Softball Tournament
The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation invites senior softball players to start their 2014 season in a tropical paradise by entering the 2nd annual Mayor’s Cup Senior Softball Tournament to be played January 19-24 in Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i.
Open to both teams and individual players, the tournament serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit Hawai‘i Island United Way. Players from as far away as Guam and the East Coast battled in this year’s inaugural tournament, which raised more than $3,000 for the less fortunate.
Divisions for players at least 60 years old and 70 and older will be offered. Individual players can be assigned to a team. Every team will be guaranteed of playing five games. Entry fees are $350 per team and $35 for individual players.
Sunny and warm Kailua-Kona offers an attractive alternative to the frigid winter weather that will have much of the nation buried in snow. January temperatures range from a low of 66 degrees to a high of 82 degrees.
Featuring the warm Pacific Ocean as a backdrop, the tournament venue offers multiple natural-grass fields located within walking distance to Kailua-Kona’s hotels, shops and beaches. Discount lodging and car rentals are available at: www.seniorsoftballhawaii.com.
