Thanks, 4b, as well. Back in the 80's in New Orleans, we played overhand, slowpitch softball. I pitched a no-hitter (good defense!), struck out 3 and lost 4/3.

Thanks for your stories, my friends. Marv, we will leave yours to imagination only.
Stick, it was just a large meadow; the grass was cropped fairly short, so actually able to at least play part of a game.
I conducted softball leagues in my little town for 11 years, so I have a few stories. Hope others will share!
Omar, I was umpiring a tourney at my fields and one of the teams showed up drinking; it was 9 a.m.! Of course, they got pounded, but it was all my fault. During the course of the game, on player on the losing team continued harassing me, cursing me, threatening me, etc. Told me more than once than he would whip me as soon as the game ended.
He stated it again at the conclusion and I had had enough. So, I proceeded to tell him "You want to fight, o.k., let's go behind the concession stand and get it on."
We started to walk off the field and I stopped, turned and said "before we do this, let me ask you one question. Have you ever killed anyone?" He stammered and I repeated the question. "What do you mean?", he asked. I responded, "I am a Vietnam Veteran; I've killed a bunch of people and if we fight, I will kill you!"

He started laughing uncomfortably and patted me on the shoulder--"Oh Steve, you know I was just kidding!" and walked away.

I WAS BLUFFING! He was at least 15 years younger than me and probably would have won the day, even though he was drunk!!

I played one game of softball in 1970. I was the armorer for C Troop, 2/1 Cav. We were running road security for infantry into Cambodia and stopped for chow about midday. Some guys starting throwing around a ball, then someone suggested a game. About half-way through the game, I was playing centerfield and a high flyball went well past me. As I started back, enemy mortars started coming in! Immediate direction reversal; game called; I never found the ball.

Discussion: Lost Bat?

Played in Pensacola this past weekend. Found a bat in dugout on field 2 after game, around 3 p.m. Have not heard from everyone on my team yet, but thinking it may belong to someone on Extreme Heat who played prior to our game. I am Steve, with Strykers.

I assume that Little Caesar's Pizza is not a nation-wide franchise, but figured teams in the South would know what I am referring to in my story.

Discussion: Since it is Easter

Wishing everyone a greatly blessed high and holy day!

Funny stuff happens as well on Easter, so I thought I would share a story. We had a guest speaker at church this past Sunday. He is a pretty big guy. It seems that a few years ago, he was persuaded to to participate in his church's Easter pageant. He was to play Pontius Pilate. At dress rehearsal, he stood on stage, sandals, toga, wreath on his head and sceptre in his hand. Out of no where appeared a small boy, running past the stage. Suddenly, the boy stopped directly in front of "Pilate", stared at him for just a moment, then yelled out--"Pizza, Pizza!"

Discussion: Teams in the South: Food for thought

I know it is a bit early, but wanted to ask anyway. I have an opportunity to host a one-day, end of season tourney in Birmingham on Saturday, November 1.

Just wondering if any teams might be interested and worth the effort. Could take up to 25 teams. Thanks

Jim, secured the glove yesterday after church. Since some of Crim's players were practicing nearby, went ahead and delivered it to them. See you in Montgomery. God bless

Thanks, Jim. I had turned it into the park director; in the process of securing it and actually will carry it to some of Crim's players this tuesday, in our senior league.
