Discussion: How to get more teams willing to play in the Major-plus division

I've played Senior Softball for 13 years and ideas to get more Major+ teams has been a topic for all those years. I think ISSA has the right solution, combine Major and Major+. Have an HR limit, say 6 and a push and use the bordering states rule. With a HR limit many Major teams can compete with + teams. This would force teams to be built on a combination of defense, basehitting and HR power. This would also make for larger brackets for the upper division.

Discussion: Best Hitters in Senior Softball

A few guys from the Southeast that deserve recognition:

Patty Mac, have known him for 30 years and he has always played at the highest level. Combination of power and high batting average. Works hard on and off the field.

Bruce Fairchild, another guy with power that hits for an average. Not as big as a lot of HR hitters but can bust it.

Mike Jackson, Dodger and Mike Langford can all get it done.

I believe this player is Ron Petre. If so Ron would be an asset to any team. He can play OF and really hit it. Ron played with the Georgia-Alabama Masters and Elite 60s, both winners of the SPA Championship in Dalton. Good luck finding a team.

Have you checked with the Elite 60s team out of Georgia. As you know they won Dalton and will be playing 60 Major. A really good bunch and you would fit in well with them. Good luck in finding a team.

Discussion: SPA v SSUSA

Both do a good job.

IIMO SSUSA does a better job rating teams.

SSUSA website is great. SPA website needs some work.

SPA hits a better ball. The SSUSA ball, the Trump Stote, in an absolute sock in high temperatures/high humidity.

SPA usually provides a score keeper and a working score board. SSUSA normally does not provide these services.

Both usually play at nice complexes and have decent umps.

Two outstanding organizations that we are fortunate to have.

Joe

Congrats on your win in Vegas. I heard you were hitting it well.

I have 2 of the 12" Dudleys, one with about 500 cuts and one with approx 100. No webbing on either. Patty Mac has one with around 800 swings on it and it's still going strong. Definitely the most durable senior bat I've swung.

Discussion: JEALOUSY AND ENVY ONE OF MANS MANY WEAKNESSES

Ozzie (twintower)

In your post about "power hitters in the senior game" and this post you speak in the third person which does come off as self promoting. As for PEDs Jose will always be linked to steroids and justifiably so. People on this board can be brutal at times and very hurtful. Some of those same people will come up to you and Jose and act like they're your best friends, go figure.

That said, the idea about about a charity event showcasing todays senior power hitters is a great idea. Maybe Bogie, the swing makeover guy, could set something up at the spring training in Florida and include it in the SM series.

You and Jose's talents will be admired and criticized by many, it goes with the territory. Praise is hard to come by and jealously is an ugly thing.

Welcome to senior softball, the Canseco brothers will be a great addition.

Discussion: God Sports 50 Major +

GSC is a M+ team, surely they have plenty power, with the DBO Jose may have to hit it down more than swing away.

Chemistry often beats talent. How will Jose fit in.

Can the other teams just play thier game and not let Jose impact how they do thier work? If so his presence will be cool but shouldn't prevent the best team from winning.

Very nice message. We should all be proud to be Americans and recognize the cost of freedom isn't measured by how many ships or jets we have it's the number of heroes willing to die for what we stand for.

Discussion: Rehoboth/Bryant reunion

Bruce

I know Rehobeth had a long run with many National Championships. In 1996 we were in the losers bracket in the ASA Natls and had to play the winner of Rehoboth/Lighthouse. We were fortunate to get by Rehobeth, something we didn't do very often, and then double dip the defending Natl Champs from Houston. One of my favorite softball memories.

Bruce

Hope you guys have a great reunion. I remember the good old days with Rehoboth, Lighthouse, Choto, 1st Baptist from Houston and many more really good teams battling it out. Our team, Olive Baptist, disbanded after winning the ASA Nationals in 1996. I think that's about the time Rehoboth slowed down. Really miss those days.

Discussion: TEAM PENALIZED FOR GODD DEFENSE AND PITCHING

Kenny

I agree with you , let you play the AAA Nationals and then move you up if warranted. You hate being penalized for playing well. It seems like some teams never get moved up, one in our area in particular but I won't mention thier name since they're my friends. Hopefully you guys can get reclassified to AAA.

Good luck and hope to see you soon

Discussion: TEAM PENALIZED FOR GODD DEFENSE AND PITCHING

Huffman is a very good 65AAA team. Can they compete in the Major division, probably so. The unfortunate thing is they should be able to play AAA until they win a true National tournament. Winning a few regional tournaments can be misleading. That said, Huffman has dominated a very good group of 65AAA teams. The rating system benefits some teams and unjustly penalizes others. In this particular case Huffman has to feel the rating system has failed them. Hopefully Huffman excepts this bump and continues to play some great softball.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and hoping for good weather.

Discussion: Patty Mac

To the friends of Patty Mac. Pat is having some health problems and while he is expecting a full recovery right now he is feeling pretty rough. Keep Pat in your prayers and if you'd like you can give him a call at 850.324.0314

I'm sure hearing from his softball brothers will help in his getting well.

Confidence
Discipline
Pitch selection
Be aggressive but under control

Hit your pitch and good things will happen

Dill pickle juice is the ticket. Often at tournaments they have a big jar of pickles. Asked for a cup of ice filled with the pickle juice. Really works.
