Discussion: thinking of retireing from tourney ball

Chances are it you quit playing ball you will pick up something else to do like golf, fishing, hunting, etc. All hobbies cost and take time. If you have lost your love for the game or feel the negatives outweigh the positives maybe you should hang it up. Good luck with your decision,

Hitman (Jim), totally agree, the awards left a lot to be desired. Congratulations on you guys win and your MVP. I heard you were 24 for 25 or something like that. Keep it up and we'll see in Maryville or Marietta.

I don't think the SPA dropped the ball. With the cost to rent fields, pay umpires, purchase awards and other costs if they don't get enough teams they are forced to cancel. It stinks that priceline wouldn't refund your money and you didn't get to play but I can't see how you blame the organization.

Unfortunately the website is not working. They have placed the 65 Majors teams with the 60 AAA.
You guys play the Hitmen Friday at 9:30. You play at 11:00 and 2:00 but I don't know who.

Yes, this is the same Bill Gore. The Hulbert team was a great team, Gore could hit it then and still wears it out.

The seniors also get together on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Exchange. We meet at 8:00am for BP and play a game starting at 9:00. Keep in mind the level of play may not be what you're accustomed to but we still have fun.

JT, hope all is going well. Did you guys win Cartersville?

I believe if you look in the dugouts what you'll see are more Mikens than all other companies combined. Combat has done a great job. DeMarini, Worth, Easton, TPS and others are vying for a piece of the market which is good for the game. Miken has a big advantage since they started everything with the Ultra II and built a huge fan base.

Great seeing you too. Your TSC team will make some serious noise this season and you will be a big addition to the team. Welcome to senior softball, you will love it.

I am glad we're not playing U-trip. You always made it tough to hit the fast ball. Hope to see you soon.

Patty Mac and I hit this bat last week and it seemed extremely stiff. The ball didn't carry as well as the senior bats or U-trip bats we were swinging. This was a new bat so it could possibly wakeup but initially not impressed.

I hear your surgery went well and your home. Look forward to seeing you in Montgomery big man.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Dennis, your husband and best friend. We can tell from your message that Dennis loved softball but more importantly he was a man of faith.

May GOD Bless you and yours during this most trying time.

Discussion: Swing Makeover #12.Using a Double Knobcuff for max power and the 70's Senior Bomb Squad from St. Petersburg, Fl

Airbosn, Lenny you are absolutely right, those guys can still hit it. Hit with Jake Woods a couple days ago and the old Detroit Tiger hit a couple in the 325-350 range.

Something cool about Jake, in 1961, his rookie season with the Tigers he had 17 doubles, 14 triples, 11 HRs, and 69 RBIs. If it wasn't for his .258 BA he may have been Rookie of the year.

Jakes brother, Richard, was an All American linebacker at USC and played in the NFL for 10 years.

Some good genetics in the Woods family.

It stinks that you aren't going to get to play in the TOC. Hopefully you and your son will spend many more days together at the ballpark.

May GOD BLESS your family with a miracle.

Omar

Hopefully others will post info on 70+ bombers from thier part of the country. While seeing 50 year olds hitting it 350+ is common place, watching guys 70 and older hit bombs is exciting.

Very cool to recognize 70+ bombers.

Here in the Florida Panhandle we have two absolute crushers.
Terry Spears is a retired Army vet, about 6' and 180 lbs. One of the sweetest swings you will see and consistenly hits bombs. Terry will be playing on a 65 Major team, The Hitmen (I believe)?

Wendell Rich is a monster. He's 71 and still has a bench press around 350 lbs. At 71 Wendell will be playing this season on a 50 Major team, Doc C's, and he will hold his own.

These two definitely represent the 70 bomb squad. And by the way, they both hit bombs when they were young.
