Discussion: Vegas 50's Fields

I played 50AAA at Lorenzi last year and thought it was a good complex, I didn't find the neighborhood to be an issue at all. Granted, I didn't go for a stroll either but the park is pretty isolated for the most part. I also played at Doc Romeo and that wasn't bad either. When you have that many teams to accommodate you need a lot of fields.
Those are the only 2 complexes I've played at in Vegas, we'll be back this year.

Discussion: missing first base

I meant to convey that I know that's how it's called and I just disagree with it.
I think on a play at 1st where the fielder throws to the bag and the runner misses the bag and the ump sees it then he should call him out. That IS why he's there, right? Balls, strikes, fair, foul, out, safe, etc. That's all I'm saying, not trying to argue.

I don't get it. If the runner beats the throw to first but passes over the bag and the ump sees him miss the bag he is still supposed to call him safe and wait for an appeal? That makes zero sense.

Discussion: Buy in programs

As a follow up, my team just did a buy in/partial equipment sponsorship with Miken Sports. I can't say enough what a great deal this is. The entire process went off without a hitch. We received our gear last week and everything was perfect. We had 13 players take advantage of this and when I handed out the gear Sunday morning at batting practice(indoor cages, too cold outside), lets just say there were a lot of smiling faces.
I put about a 100 swings on my new 27oz. Big Cat and the bat feels great, lots of pop, I think it's going to live up to the hype. Can't wait to get out on a field with it and see what it's really got.

Discussion: same team playing in two different age groups

Just a hypothetical situation, I have a 15 player roster and every player is 54 and every player turns 55 this season. This team played 50M last season. The team now plays as 55M and can play as 50 AAA?

I'm trying to understand how the rating rules apply. If for instance my team is 50M and next season the youngest player on our roster turns 55, we would then be eligible to play 55M? Also if I read this correctly we could play 50M and/or 50AAA as the rating index would be the same?

Discussion: Team pages

Does anyone have a website or facebook page for their team? If you do post up a link here. Last year I created a facebook page for the team I play on/sponsor, we play league together and were trying to put the league team into a few tournies but individual schedules made it impossible. We ended up combining with a couple other tournament teams that folded and poof, a new tournament team was formed. So now our page covers both teams.

Discussion: POWER HITTERS

xavier, perhaps you're new to internet forums so I'll try to help out. Since you've joined this site you have done nothing but give people a hard time yet you complain that you're being bashed. Now you're starting with the name calling(Slack jaw) and you think anyone's going to take you serious?

You may be a great hitter and may have lots to offer but the way in which you're trying to do it is very abrasive and will rub people the wrong way. Lighten up a little bit brother, we are not the enemy here.

Discussion: Bats

Just curious Mannjo, are they replacing the bat? I would think they should as this is a manufacturing issue imho rather than a "breakage" issue. I hope they are. My team is preparing to enter into a buy in deal with Miken and how they're handling this could force me to reconsider doing it.

Discussion: face masks

mad dog, a mask doesn't exactly break the bank. I have 2, a $30 Schutt which is nice but provides just face protection with your head still exposed. I've seen come backers where the pitcher turned to avoid getting hit but ended up taking one off of the cranium. I just purchased a new Worth Legit face mask/helmet for $90 and I think I'm going to be very happy with it. The examples SSUSA listed are not just multi-million dollar organizations. I take it you have no children who've played sports?
In a sport where players spend hundreds of dollars on bats alone, complaining about buying a $30 mask is kinda silly.

Discussion: Rating rule clarification

I have what should be a simple question. A player who played last year as 50 major turns 55 this year is now rated as a 55 major, correct? If that is correct would that players 50 rating now be AAA?

Discussion: face masks

I was originally against this rule but after playing senior ball for a few years I have to say my opinion has changed. Our reflexes as we age slow down but the equipment we use, specifically the bats and balls, have kept the game at a fast or even faster pace than when we were young.
I blame this on EGO. I've been playing ball with a lot of the same guys since I was in my 20's and I've seen guys as seniors hitting bombs that never hit homeruns when they were young. I personally think we need to outlaw these high performance bats and balls. I played in the World Masters in Vegas last year and the ball they use, the Rock, is ridiculously hot. Seriously, what is the need for these supercharged bats and balls???
I was told by an ump that a couple years ago a 3rd baseman was killed by a line drive that hit him in the chest. Does everyone really need to stroke their ego so badly that we have to put people in danger due to the equipment being too high performance??

The problem with pitching in senior ball is the mat. You have to serve it up to a batter holding a missile launcher in their hands. I preferred, for better or worse that the umps call the balls and strikes. It allows a pitcher to pitch and forces the batter to be more aggressive IMHO. Another solution might be a bigger mat?

Discussion: OKRA FOR POSSIBLE DROP IN GLUCOSE/SUGAR LEVELS FOR DIABETICS ?

The best advice I can give you is to cut out all the sugar from your diet that's possible. The main cause of weight gain and type 2 diabetes is sugar consumption. Not just sugars but carbohydrates as well. When your body metabolizes carbs it turns them to sugar.

Discussion: Buy in programs

I've been in contact with one of the major senior bat manufacturers about a buy in program and it seems like a great deal on the surface but I have no experience with them. I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has done this. Pros? Cons?

Deal includes a bat($230 retail), a bat bag($130 retail), a batting glove and a hat all for $225 per player. Minimum 12 players.

Discussion: SSUSA Opens Northeast Region

Anyone worried about an unfair advantage based on population can rest easy. Of the 6 New England states, 3(Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire) have 0 teams registered in any SSUSA age divisions. The other 3(Ma, Ct. and RI) combined have 10 - 50+, 4 - 55+, 7 - 60+, 4 - 65+, 6 - 70+ and 1 each in the 75+ and 80+ divisions. Of those 33 total team at least a 1/3 to 1/2 of them are not active.
I live in R.I. and can say from a tournament perspective there just aren't that many players interested.
