Discussion: Armed Forced: Did you Serve?

Ken Reese, Air Force, 66-69, Tet Offensive, Vietnam, NKP Thailand. Two year break, rejoined in 72-90, Korea, Okinawa, Japan, Panama Invasion, retired 1990. The Air Force was a great experience, and we should be proud of every minute, our present day military persons are serving.

Discussion: Faith Electric is back

This message is for the complete Faith Team, we had the misfortune of playing Faith twice this weekend and of course we lost, I play for Southern Softball, and we really enjoyed playing this group of men, they are very talented and can hit and run with the best of the teams. You can learn an awful lot playing this kind of talent, however it will wear you down. We know when we go to these tournaments and play the upper class teams it helps us to get ready for the nationals when we will really play someone in our classifiction. Faith and Old South Miken are two of the teams in the South that you can really get better by playing them. The best of luck to all this men and the talent they bring to this sport.

Discussion: ratings

Reply to Ratings by Bobby L. I have seen this happen in all the associations this year. Our team went to the USSSA, NSA, and ISSA and there were teams that were playing AAA, that had either played Major, finished second in a National Tournament and were playing above the real true AAA teams. I played on a team that went to the AA World Tournament last year in Canada, and we won the US National Championship, and were automatically moved to AAA, for this year, and the team that won the World Tournament were also moved to AAA. I have played this game along time as most of the gentlemen playing it today, and have seen teams travel all the way across the United States to play in a 4 team tournament just to win a World Tournament. This does not happen only in the Seniors, it happens with the younger generation also. They change the team name, and drop down two classes and go out out state and play. I believe eventually if the classification system stays as it is, the interest in playing Senior Softball will slowly be degraded.

Discussion: Bruce in GA Fields in North Charleston

Bruce, this is Kenny, as you know that is going to be my home in the future. I played alot of ball there when I was in the Air Force. If you are coming from Columbia down I-26, and get closer to North Charleston, you will see an exit that reads Remount Road, you take this exit and follow it straight to the fields, the fields are almost at the end of Remount Road on the left, you can not miss them once you get on Remount Road. The complex at one time was called Cook Field, and I think they have changed it to North Charleston Sports Complex. I will see you this week in Vegas, so if you need any other info, let me know.

Discussion: To Bruce in GA

Bruce, I know you have seen the team listing and brackets, so it looks like we will finally play some different teams. I know you remember the KC Masters. Have you heard from Russ in Florida, and how is Jackson doing from his illness? Looks like this will be a good tournament with all the teams listed. We are leaving on Wednesday afternoon to go to Vegas, so I will see you there.

Congratulations to Bruce on the Alabama 55's for winning the "homerun" contest. Bruce if you would have let me pitch to you, you could have hit all 7 out. It has been a great pleasure playing with Bruce this year, and you can bank on him hitting the ball for any team. We the Alabama 55's have a great team togetherness, and have not played any slack teams in any tournaments, and most of all we have met some great players and made some good friends over this year. Hope everyone will have a great off season, and pray for our country, and most of all pray for our men and women who are serving in our military.

Discussion: Anyone know the correct ruling on this?

This is in reply to the question of using a bat with a flat spot. This is really interesting, because just this past weekend, I was playing in a USSSA State tournament, and the umpires checked the bats with a ring, and then marked the end of the bats with a big green "X", they also checked for flat spots and cracks on the end of the bat to ensure that the plug would not come out and also to insure that the cracks didnot protrude upwards. This whole conversation was interesting, because I remember and I am sure alot of other guys remember when the Demarini Classic "97" model came out how hot it was but had a problem with the plug and with hair line cracks at the end. In addition, I saw alot of Demarini bats with flat spots, and they were only removed from play and not able to use again. I had a Demarini with a flat spot, and it was check in the NSA World tournament and I was told that it was unsafe, and not to be used. However, it you swing a bat and it doesn't have a flat spot, that doesn't mean it can't happen anytime, materials fail, just as humans do.

Discussion: Looking to play on a 55 team in Southeast

I would like to tryout for a 55 team in the Southeast, I have played for GA Travelers, GA Express, Sunview, plus I played Air Force Ball for 20 years. I am a hard competitor, love the game, but believe in a team atmosphere. Thanks in advance for any interest. Have a Great Day!
