| Sept. 11, 2012 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Is it too much to expect ice water in the dugout? Andy, Slammed is putting it mildly. Apparently, some people didn't take the time to read my entire post before poppin' off about bringing coolers, and personal accountability. Some seemed to entirely miss the part that states I did bring water and gatorade...I didn't ask for the organization to supply drinking water...read a little slower and take it all in before you pounce fellas. Just as you stated Andy, it's been SOP for SSUSA to have the 5 gallon jug of ice water in the dugouts for tournaments, especially at the venues where it's hot. Most of us will use that water to douse ourselves to help cool us down a little. Marv, many guys drink the water from these things, maybe not now though. Thanks for the informing us of the sanitizing, or lack thereof :)...and who the hell is dunking their towels in the ice water buckets anyway. Peace out. |
| Sept. 10, 2012 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Is it too much to expect ice water in the dugout? Maybe it's just me, but after playing this past weekend in Hemet at the SCSST/SSUSA Last Chance Qualifier, is it too much to expect some ice water in the dugouts? Played 4 games on Saturday, 2 back to back, then a one game break, then 2 more back to back, it was pretty warm out there, and the facility doesn't have much in the way of shade. Just sayin'. While we had water, gatorade, etc., a little ice water to douse yourself sometimes can be a good thing. Seem like these things are only addressed at the major tournies, kinda like the defibrillators. Signed, Overheated |

| July 21, 2012 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Deepest Sympathy to Scrap Iron and Aurora Terry, Thank you for speaking on behalf of SSUSA. I'd like to add the following: With less than two weeks before many senior softball players, friends, and families make their way to Aurora for the Western Nationals, please keep in mind that this community is in mourning. I have two friends there, one nearby in Denver and the other in Aurora. As you can imagine, the community is in a state of shock and disbelief, as is the rest of the country. Let us all remember the emotional situation we will be in, and to be as sensitive and caring to this community as we possibly can. Tony Baltazar Desert Dawgs - 50AAA So Cal 55's - 55 Major |

| July 4, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Bats Discussion: what's the best senior bat, gave up on the gsc promises. Salio, No problem, thanks for the clarification. I thought that maybe they were the same, performance-wise. It would seem that they are not since I've been asked by many if I would sell mine, which won't happen. Like I stated earlier, I swing a Reebok Melee EL, super hot bat, but the Combat will always be my back-up. Tony |
| July 3, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Bats Discussion: what's the best senior bat, gave up on the gsc promises. Salio, From the front page on the senior softball site, click Senior Softball Store.com, go to Page 4, they have 'em for $189.95 free shipping. I swing a Reebok Melee myself, but this Combat is a great back-up. Tony |
| July 3, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Bats Discussion: what's the best senior bat, gave up on the gsc promises. Capt D5, Go with the Original Combat Da Bomb (Silver). Durable as all hell and with pop. I've had one for 6 years, used it in cold weather and it's still good to go. During that time I've broken countless Miken UII's, a few of Reebok Melee's, and a Worth Launch 510. I keep it as a back-up. Tony Baltazar So Cal 55's - 55 Major Desert Dawgs - 50 AAA |
| June 14, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Las Vegas Capt Kirk, Boulder Station and Eastside Cannery are far and away the two best on Boulder Hwy, with Eastside Cannery getting my vote (nicer rooms). However, Boulder Station comes with breakfast each day and has far more restaurant and entertainment choices. The Railhead at Boulder is one of the best venues anywhere for live concerts. Cant go wrong with either one. Tony Baltazar So Cal 55 Major Desert Dawgs 50 AAA |
| June 13, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: WESTERN NATIONALS IN AURORA, COLORADO G19, So, do you believe that we should all compete meaningfully against each other and not have lower divisions, JV and lower as you state? I think that is what you're saying, so correct me if I'm wrong. Given that logic, why do high schools even have Varsity, JV, and even lower in some parts of the country? It's because of skill level. I guess if you were the decision maker, all 15 thru 18 yr old "athletes" would compete against each other in one division, right? Did any of your kids ever compete at the lower level or did they all jump right into the Varsity world. If they didn't, I bet you were ok with that. How about this G19, at the professional level we would eliminate all lower level organizations Football - just the NFL, no CFL or WFL. Baseball - Just MLB, no A, AA, AAA, or Independent League Basketball - just NBA, no European,Chinese,Italian...leagues Soccer - just World Cup Sport is Sport, I think that's what you're saying. In your view of senior softball, it seems your issue is that teams are not beating the best. Well, the winning team is the best that weekend, the number of teams attending is not something that can be controlled DD (Dennis Dalton)- The Desert Dawg 50 team will be at the Western Nationals. Looking forward to this one as it will be my first time to Aurora. Tony Baltazar |
| June 10, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: WESTERN NATIONALS IN AURORA, COLORADO Gentlemen, In conversation with my senior softball buddies I've never heard the winning of these three tournaments referred to as the Triple Grand Slam, but rather the Triple Crown, which makes much more sense to me. After all, if you win all three you are essentially the "leader" of the three "categories", Western Nationals winner, Western/Eastern Nationals championship game winner, and SSUSA/LVSSA Championships winner. Gary19 we all know that if we win these, we're not the "World" champions in the true sense of the word. Why do you care if the organization calls it that? Does it personally offend you? If you don't play this organizations tournaments, why is this such an issue? Is it just your thing? After coming close to losing a leg due to a rollover traffic accident , I'm friggin' thrilled to still be able to play. I've had my left knee scoped three times, am bone on bone there, my right once for torn MCL, and the three surgeries from my accident. All that and I still run, so why don't you give it a rest, please. Tony Baltazar So Cal 55's - 55 Major Desert Dawgs - 50 AAA (soon to be Major) Ex-Barcelona Bandit - 50 Major |
| May 20, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Bats Discussion: Can the girls swing seniors bats at rock N reno may 27th Nedra, What can I say? The wife's got game! LoL. Seriously though, I swung Miken for many years, just bought a new one as a matter of fact, but primarily swing the end loaded Melee and have been since March of last year. The bat just has major "pop". Like you, I was sold on it after a BP session. If you're looking to purchase one in Reno, contact Ed Andrews (Reebok rep) at 970-729-3135. He's Surf88 above. Tony |
| May 15, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Bats Discussion: Can the girls swing seniors bats at rock N reno may 27th Dave, the answer is yes. My wife borrowed my Miken Maxload a couple of years ago and I never got it back. |
| March 6, 2012 gott2play | Topic: Bats Discussion: "New" Worth Launch 510 HJ, I bought one from Bats Unlimited maybe two years ago. Didn't use it much since I normally swing the Original Combat, Combat Centenarian and the Reebok Melee EL. When I did use it, I thought it was ok, never swung the original version, so don't really have good knowledge of how it compares. It probably had 40 swings on it when it snapped right at the top of the tape line while playing in 80 degree Palm Springs weather. Bats Unlimited suggested I contact Worth, I did and they refused to even look at it, instead saying it was a senior bat with no warranty. I thought maybe they would at least take a look at it since it wasn't normal breakage. Nice customer service!! Tony Baltazar So Cal 55 - Major |

| Nov. 21, 2011 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Miken Rep/under the lights SD and Curveball, I was at Hollywood Park Softball complex and spoke to someone sponsored by Miken. I was told that Miken has laid-off Corky as well as doing away with the traveling equipment truck. Would seem like Miken is going the route of retail or on-line. TB |
| Nov. 15, 2011 gott2play | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: RANKING THE MEN IN THE 40S mad dog, you are right, syn+ is a utrip bat, league is asa, so that is the reason. my buddy thought the syn+ was ok, he knows now. my point is young guys using shaved bats and then having the audacity to complain about opponents equipment. |
| Nov. 14, 2011 gott2play | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: RANKING THE MEN IN THE 40S A couple of weeks ago in my city league, we played some youngsters clearly swinging altered bats. They dropped a 25 spot on us in the 1st inning, with some small guys hitting absolute bombs. We come up in the top of 2nd, manager calls time out and questions our legal Synergy Plus....seriously!!! Umpire removed the bat from play. Talk about the height of hypocrisy. BTW, I'm 55 and play on a team of mostly 50 plus guys. |
