| Aug. 28 hurdler52 22 posts | Situation was as follows; bases loaded, no outs, batter hits line drive to 3rd baseman who drops the ball. None of the base runners leave their base and the 3rd baseman steps on third and throws to 2nd, who throws to first. The umpire calls a triple play. Game over. Is this the correct call? |
| Aug. 28 SSUSA Staff 3505 posts | It's the correct call so long as the umpire's judgment is that the 3B didn't INTENTIONALLY drop the ball ... If the drop is judged to be intentional, to create the potential for the double/triple play, then the batter is out and the runners return to their original bases ... This was discussed here earlier today and the Rulebook Reference is ยง1.39 on page 7 ... |
