There are a lot of myths about the best way to break in a composite bat. It is impossible to do it with the various methods I have seen posted on this web site and others. I had the good fortune to go through the Miken factory years ago when Jeb and Pete Griffith owned the company. I could see then by the way the composite bats were constructed why they might break if not properly broken in.

I gathered over a dozen broken bats and had a company who makes products with the same carbon fiber Kevlar and fiberglass cut the bats apart to examine them and make a determination about the breakage. They had no way of knowing how the bats were broken in. Their conclusion, as some of you know, was that a bat must be turned 60 degrees after each hit to prolong the life of the bat.

I told them about all the different bat doctors who break in bats with vices and floor jacks and other machines. One bat doctor heats the bats and they said that would definitely weaken the bat. It is their professional opinion that it would be impossible to break the bat in evenly by the current methods people are using.

If you would like more information on this subject please email me at bobswarthout@hotmail.com or call 530-272-7024 I would be happy to share with you some of the bat testing that I am doing.
