I have experience with managing games with 11 on defense, but most of it not very good. Even with instructions to the infield, we end up with too many or too few players at 2B, with some players with no role at all.

So, I'd like to tap into the extensive wisdom of the Message Board Superstars -- what's worked for you and what hasn't worked with the "Short Fielder" (SF)?

Where does the SF play with no runners on base?
Where does the SF play with runners on base?
How to handle double play balls (roles of SS, 2B, SF)?
How to handle cut-offs (roles of SS, 2B, SF)?

Anything else?

the sf position depends a lot on his arm strenth(to be able to throw arunner out from the second base area).with a right hand hitter he normally would be between the bag and the ss.and on the other side witha left hand batter, he should be able to cover 95% of all the double plays, what we do with 2 outs and a force play situation is play the sf deep behind second base even on the grass all we want is the force at second thats when we will have the ss or sb cover.(or even the pitcher) throws from the out field again depends on his arm strenth hits down the lines the ss or sb go out for the relays, it takes a little getting use to
