Feb. 21 gonz 51 posts | you have bases loaded and 2 out. batter gets a hit. runner at third scores. umpire calls the game. batter walks to the dugout without touching first. what is the ruling? does run count and game is over? what if team on field appeals that batter didn't touch first base but the umpire calls game over? What is supposed to be the ruling? Mahalo Sherwin Gonzales Hawaiians #35 |
Feb. 21 DaveDowell Men's 70 4323 posts | An appeal for the out at 1st base is a valid appeal until the umpires leave the field of play ... If the appeal is made timely, the proper ruling would be that the batter is out for having left the field of play before legally acquiring 1st base and you would start the next (extra) inning ... __________ Rule Book §1.1 • APPEAL PLAY An appeal play is a play on which an umpire may not make a decision until requested by a manager, coach or player. The appeal must be made before the next legal or illegal pitch, before an intentional walk or before the pitcher and all infielders have clearly vacated their normal fielding positions and have left fair territory on their way to the bench or dugout area. On the last play of the game, an appeal can be made until the umpires leave the field of play. |
Feb. 21 gonz 51 posts | had that happen in a game. we appealed before leaving the field. umpire said that run counted. game was tied at the time. game was over even though we appealed batter not touching first base. I guess the umpire got it wrong. Sherwin Gonzales Hawaiians #35 |

Feb. 21 gonz 51 posts | we still lost. umpire said he called the game once the player from third base scored, so the game was over. |
Feb. 21 lb16 Men's 60 199 posts | Yes umpire may have called game but if everything happened the way you said you have the right to tell umpire we are protesting game. And the league director or UIC should review the facts and game would have to be finished in extra innings. Just because umpire says ball game does not mean your team doesn't have the right to file an official protest based on his incorrect call. |
